<section id="H20B0B5CFE22B47FFA3EDEB490ACB0341" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Public Safety Officers’ Benefits Enhancement Act of 2026</short-title></quote>.</text></section> <section id="H26C4032F9E4E4713A8092996A2C47A92"><enum>2.</enum><header>Simplified claims</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 1201(k) of title I of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/34/10281">34 U.S.C. 10281(k)</external-xref>) is amended—</text> 
<paragraph id="H5CFF96F0C83A4480AE8A7FAAAA19A2C2"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in the matter following paragraph (3), by striking <quote>or was directly and proximately caused by something other than the mere presence of cardiovascular-disease risk factors</quote>;</text></paragraph> <paragraph id="H4CCAE85A97054EB3A15EF6F685C10352"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by striking paragraph (3);</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H2FB690F120E342779395E8EFA6171938"><enum>(3)</enum><text>in paragraph (2)(C)—</text> <subparagraph id="HA65C66B8ABBF463E9C88716FAA1C3BC7"><enum>(A)</enum><text>by striking <quote>24 hours</quote> and inserting <quote>72 hours</quote>; and</text></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="H1F19A6CE96474D3FB03054F7D78B28E5"><enum>(B)</enum><text>by striking <quote>; and</quote> at the end and inserting <quote>,</quote>; and</text></subparagraph></paragraph> <paragraph id="H89A7D6AB7C43450FAC9479CD63C3DCF1"><enum>(4)</enum><text>in paragraph (1)(B), by striking the semicolon at the end and inserting <quote>; and</quote>.</text></paragraph></section>
<section id="H70DF6AFF4D3A464DB5CDE08BC6EDEA8F"><enum>3.</enum><header>Application</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">The amendments made by this Act shall apply in the case of any claim for benefits that is pending or filed on or after the date of enactment of this Act.</text> </section> </legis-body></bill>
