<section id="HA8CE2901E245455E81170267F5030FC1" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Advanced Imaging for Respiratory Care, Assessment, and Research Excellence for Veterans Act of 2026</short-title></quote> or the <quote><short-title>AIR CARE for Vets Act of 2026</short-title></quote>.</text></section> <section id="H93E7D705C0934B90B34C33007F78A374" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Respiratory disorder and lung disease pilot program</header> <subsection id="HEDFEB71E76BD470C9EAC427BE8184576"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Establishment</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary of Veterans Affairs shall establish a pilot program to use an eligible software product to identify respiratory disorders and lung disease in veterans receiving medical services at facilities of the Department of Veterans Affairs.</text></subsection>
<subsection id="HD7DFC95865FE4D06ABAAD6560C3E108F"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Leases of lung imaging software products</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary shall carry out subsection (a) by seeking to enter into an agreement with an eligible entity to lease an eligible software product to the Secretary.</text></subsection> <subsection id="H67315DA5B4724005A3E6F8F081CF8EAD"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Expiration of authority</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The authority of the Secretary to enter into an agreement under subsection (b) shall expire on the date that is five years after the date of the enactment of this Act.</text></subsection>
<subsection id="H839021BFB1984D83A21CB27C6BD1303E"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Report</header><text>Not later than 2 years after the expiration of authority under subsection (c), the Secretary shall submit to Congress a report evaluating the effectiveness of the pilot program.</text></subsection> <subsection id="HBC0692797B6545478BD228F30D9214E8"><enum>(e)</enum><header>Authorization of appropriations</header><text>There are authorized to be appropriated to carry out this section $5,000,000 for each of fiscal years 2027 through 2031.</text></subsection>
<subsection id="H655019B9B61B46729B02613534647317"><enum>(f)</enum><header>Definitions</header><text>In this section:</text> <paragraph id="H0AF4823DBB7A4686AC9F72C6AC1C03AE"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The term <term>eligible entity</term> means a developer of an eligible software product.</text></paragraph>
<paragraph id="HBFF7182EE0CE430D86ADA4E9665CED4E"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The term <term>eligible software product</term> means a four-dimensional functional lung imaging software product that has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration to evaluate lung function.</text></paragraph> <paragraph id="HC1B95AA3B80C4671A5A142350A48FBB4"><enum>(3)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The terms <term>facilities of the Department</term> and <term>medical services</term> have the meanings given such terms in section 1701 of title 38, United States Code.</text></paragraph></subsection></section>
