<section id="HA7C859CBCB594DC088D2EDF6A50B4913" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Sunshine for Our Kids Act of 2026</short-title></quote>.</text></section> <section id="H7E0809D401AC494B93C17F3EAA438622"><enum>2.</enum><header>Making standard time permanent</header> <subsection id="H069E35A8D02143CCBC6554A88CE0D833"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Repeal of daylight saving time</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 3 of the Uniform Time Act of 1966 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/15/260a">15 U.S.C. 260a</external-xref>) is hereby repealed.</text></subsection> 
<subsection id="HED78CE9FECB043A19E6212138678D32E">
        <enum>(b)</enum>
        <header>Exception if State elects To observe daylight saving time</header>
 <text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 1 of the Act of March 19, 1918 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/15/261">15 U.S.C. 261</external-xref>; commonly known as the <quote>Calder Act</quote>), is amended—</text>
        <paragraph id="HDAC08FAE47744E5EAC7E13F591C2E747">
          <enum>(1)</enum>
 <text>by redesignating subsection (b) as subsection (c); and</text> </paragraph> <paragraph id="H3E1BFE4C63874585A5CFD5B1864F779C"> <enum>(2)</enum> <text>by inserting after subsection (a) the following:</text>

              <enum>(b)</enum>
              <header>State election To observe daylight saving time</header>
              <paragraph id="HA69E51E311E2471DA4D3C336EAEB18DA">
                <enum>(1)</enum>
                <header>States in 1 time zone</header>
 <text display-inline="yes-display-inline">A State may by law provide that the standard time for such State shall be advanced by 1 hour (either year-round or for a portion of the year, as specified in such law), but only if such law provides that the entire State (including all political subdivisions thereof) shall observe the same standard time.</text>
              </paragraph>
              <paragraph id="H8924B56C744C4314A89FD1EDAF4E97C8">
                <enum>(2)</enum>
                <header>States in more than 1 time zone</header>
 <text>In the case of a State that has areas within more than 1 time zone, such State may by law provide for—</text>
                <subparagraph id="H65B6E35AE5D44441A8B7A5230B53E3EB">
                  <enum>(A)</enum>
 <text>the standard time for the entire State to be advanced as described in paragraph (1); or</text>
                </subparagraph>
                <subparagraph id="H3F43D47476A7462D9FBFFC97E2F2DB75">
                  <enum>(B)</enum>
 <text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the standard time for the entire area of such State lying within any time zone to be advanced by 1 hour (either year-round or for a portion of the year, as specified in such law).</text>
                </subparagraph>
              </paragraph>
              <paragraph id="HB8CFEAFAEFC541D7A560D0D2A4A331B1">
                <enum>(3)</enum>
                <header>State defined</header>
 <text>In this subsection, the term <quote>State</quote> has the meaning given such term in section 7 of the Uniform Time Act of 1966 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/15/267">15 U.S.C. 267</external-xref>).</text>
              </paragraph>
            </subsection>

      </subsection> 
<subsection id="H8FC3BC6E783A41419EDD4CBC4C4B1714">
        <enum>(c)</enum>
        <header>Conforming amendment</header>
 <text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The second sentence of section 1(a) of the Act of March 19, 1918 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/15/261">15 U.S.C. 261(a)</external-xref>), is amended by striking <quote>Except as provided in section 3(a) of the Uniform Time Act of 1966 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/15/260a">15 U.S.C. 260a</external-xref>),</quote> and inserting <quote>Except as provided in subsection (b),</quote>.</text>
      </subsection> 
<subsection id="H53D519F1BAFE42FA816A5D2332F9CECA"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text>The amendments made by this section shall take effect on the first Sunday of November that first occurs after the date of the enactment of this Act.</text></subsection> </section> </legis-body></bill>
