<section id="H186AC3F642A0462198B5DA1784DA11F5" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Protecting Communities from Data Center Impacts Act of 2026</short-title></quote>.</text></section> <section id="HA3D0E498774E4DB2AFBC508F0313820A"><enum>2.</enum><header>Assessment of environmental and public health effects of data centers</header> <text display-inline="no-display-inline">The Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency shall seek to enter into an agreement with the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (referred to in this section as the <quote>National Academies</quote>) under which the National Academies shall—</text> 
<paragraph id="H27AC99D3EE0445D7A952C9E7F95E9BEE"><enum>(1)</enum><text>conduct an assessment of the impacts of data centers on the environment and public health, including with respect to—</text> <subparagraph id="HAC2C654A5DA448908BA0D3E0D7324715" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(A)</enum><text>noise pollution;</text></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="H94D25F6B5DDE4C5A85953851838872AD"><enum>(B)</enum><text>air pollution;</text></subparagraph> <subparagraph id="HF40F480B26944C0DA1036E2966E9C05B"><enum>(C)</enum><text>water consumption;</text></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="H4792BE2B0F284D949489B970FE9F437D"><enum>(D)</enum><text>water supply;</text></subparagraph> <subparagraph id="H1485C58BEC2D47D2B099698B51A37244"><enum>(E)</enum><text>carbon emissions; and</text></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="H6460D16C26C74723ADB45AB41DE201D8"><enum>(F)</enum><text>waste, including electronic waste;</text> </subparagraph></paragraph> <paragraph id="H7A5911E079C84F8E9E4812172214D917"><enum>(2)</enum><text>develop recommendations to mitigate such impacts; and</text></paragraph>
<paragraph id="HD67C5EC8356140E897850D6AD66D68CD"><enum>(3)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">not later than 180 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, submit to the Committee on Energy and Commerce of the House of Representatives and the Committee on Environment and Public Works of the Senate a report containing the results of the assessment conducted under paragraph (1) and the recommendations developed under paragraph (2).</text></paragraph></section> </legis-body></bill>
