R. 9382</legis-num><associated-doc role="report" display="yes">[Report No. 119–828]</associated-doc><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20260622">June 22, 2026</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="K000402">Mr. Kennedy of New York</sponsor> introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HHM00">Committee on Homeland Security</committee-name></action-desc></action><action display="yes"><action-date date="20260915">September 15, 2026</action-date><action-desc>Additional sponsors: <cosponsor name-id="L000598">Mr. LaLota</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="M001231">Mr. Mannion</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="T000478">Ms. Tenney</cosponsor></action-desc></action><action display="yes"><action-date date="20260915">September 15, 2026</action-date><action-desc>Committed to the Committee of the Whole House on the State of the Union and ordered to be printed<pagebreak></pagebreak></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To require the Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection to link together applications of family members throughout the NEXUS application process, and for other purposes.<pagebreak></pagebreak></official-title></form><legis-body id="H55A80B2DCD5A450EB53321036D63AFBC" style="OLC"><section id="H5740122451E64ADEBE89CC60CCCBB433" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Linking family members throughout the NEXUS application process</header><subsection id="H65D67EC1656D410E97733418E703D4B0" commented="no"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Not later than 180 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection shall link together applications of family members throughout the NEXUS application process.</text></subsection><subsection id="HD7DEA2EC1AAD443185543060FBC6D2E5"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Options</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection—</text><paragraph id="H3C48DFC0D52B47C39839F47726F6EE7A"><enum>(1)</enum><text>shall permit an individual family member to schedule interviews during the NEXUS application process under subsection (a) for all family members who are linked together in accordance with such subsection; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HAA99D5792EF449EE87BDD47066ECE018"><enum>(2)</enum><text>may offer such families the option to conduct joint interviews.</text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H9A95EF47C781485AAEF160CFBBED57B1" commented="no"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Exception</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection may exempt from an interview during the NEXUS application process a child under 14 years of age who is linked to the application of an eligible family member.</text></subsection><subsection id="H795A17A4ACAF4C10B024C9701FB904E5"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Definition</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In this section:</text><paragraph id="H1610BB05F741465AA1CFCEB53ABDF75A"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Family members</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The term <quote>family members</quote> means parents, legal guardians, children, grandparents, grandchildren and siblings residing within a single household. </text></paragraph><paragraph id="H335DA5EC748D4082B10886DEDCCF8799"><enum>(2)</enum><header>NEXUS</header><text>The term <quote>NEXUS</quote> means the program under section 404 of the Enhanced Border Security and Visa Entry Reform Act of 2002 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/8/1753">8 U.S.C. 1753</external-xref>; relating to joint United States-Canada projects for alternative inspections services).</text></paragraph></subsection></section></legis-body><endorsement display="yes"><action-date>September 15, 2026</action-date><action-desc>Committed to the Committee of the Whole House on the State of the Union and ordered to be printed</action-desc></endorsement></bill>
