which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HHA00">Committee on House Administration</committee-name></action-desc></action><action display="yes"><action-date date="20260910">September 10, 2026</action-date><action-desc>Reported with an amendment, committed to the Committee of the Whole House on the State of the Union, and ordered to be printed</action-desc><action-instruction>Strike out all after the enacting clause and insert the part printed in italic</action-instruction><action-instruction>For text of introduced bill, see copy of bill as introduced on June 18, 2026</action-instruction><action-desc><pagebreak></pagebreak></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To sunset the Advisory Committee on the Records of Congress, and for other purposes.<pagebreak></pagebreak></official-title></form><legis-body display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause" changed="added" style="OLC" committee-id="HHA00" reported-display-style="italic" id="HF8D3D2CABCF54795ABE4BBBCFE5BA10E"><section id="H87EFA15D53A44B95AE61209984BA07B1" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Advisory Committee on the Records of Congress Sunset Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H85241DF7972B49929158CAA0CE11A5F3"><enum>2.</enum><header>Management and preservation of the records of Congress</header><subsection id="H3DBD32107F564DFC8CD2430689EE39D7"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Sunset of Advisory Committee on the Records of Congress</header><text>Effective on the date that is 60 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, title 44, United States Code, is amended—</text><paragraph id="HD6506D9CC3B44FB28E343BD158BCD29A"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by striking chapter 27; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H62734C20F37D4A2193EA16BF6068759D"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in the table of chapters, by striking the item relating to chapter 27. </text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HCE52E98EAE8D4219AEA68282847A5502"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Report</header><text>Not later than February 1 of the year beginning after the date of enactment of this Act, and annually thereafter, the Director shall submit a report on the management and preservation of the records of Congress during the previous year to—</text><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H24D0D6F69B564468835BD2707F9533F0"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the Archivist; </text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H047991C6D2324D16A3283811DC121943"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the Secretary; </text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HAA2B4A3DEA71445DB0F325A101364A8B"><enum>(3)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the Clerk; </text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H6A2A6A469AC64CFF861CB498FA44FA01"><enum>(4)</enum><text>the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs and the Committee on Rules and Administration of the Senate; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HAEDF61EE5D424335AB07311A5035E391"><enum>(5)</enum><text>the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and the Committee on House Administration of the House of Representatives.</text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H513DFECDF1624CC0ADFA4C48323B7C63"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Review</header><text>The Archivist, the Secretary, and the Clerk shall meet to review the management and preservation of the records of Congress—</text><paragraph id="HACAF8F08CD7040EE8A3D65BA41B9A642"><enum>(1)</enum><text>not later than 60 days after the date on which the Director submits a report under subsection (b); and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H717C89AFD8E94FACA32FD24C8E377CAF" commented="no"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">not later than 180 days after the date on which an individual begins to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the Archivist, Secretary, or Clerk. </text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H1937D7B595584064BFC9B83478312D1D"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Definitions</header><text>In this section:</text><paragraph id="HA348B32C3A104AB8B5729ECC61517A00"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Archivist</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The term <term>Archivist</term> means the Archivist of the United States, or any successor thereto.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H4DD6EDAB581949F4AC46024BCA2911F8"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Clerk</header><text>The term <term>Clerk</term> means the Clerk of the House of Representatives.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HBC868FADF7134A14AEAB3922FB332A3C"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Director</header><text>The term <term>Director</term> means the Director of the Center for Legislative Archives of the National Archives, or any successor thereto.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HB77B906EB2D644FF83C7F4B54564A646"><enum>(4)</enum><header>Secretary</header><text>The term <term>Secretary</term> means the Secretary of the Senate.</text></paragraph></subsection></section></legis-body><endorsement display="yes"><action-date date="20260910">September 10, 2026</action-date><action-desc>Reported with an amendment, committed to the Committee of the Whole House on the State of the Union, and ordered to be printed</action-desc></endorsement></bill>
