<section id="H515C4DA42A1845D79EC6FBB73C1411B4" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Affordable Innovation for the Grid Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section> <section id="HA086EF38D6C04083B1F0CED43455002B"><enum>2.</enum><header>Assessment on use of artificial intelligence and high-performance computing technologies to enhance bulk-power system</header> <subsection id="H601C108202904D6EA1510644D7CFFDC3"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Assessment</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Not later than 90 days after the date of enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Energy, in consultation with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the Electric Reliability Organization, shall conduct an assessment on the use of artificial intelligence and high-performance computing technologies, including an assessment of the employment of probabilistic operating techniques by artificial intelligence and high-performance computing technologies, to enhance the capacity, reliable operation, and operational efficiency of the bulk-power system.</text></subsection> 
<subsection id="H2903CB6A876944C8AE540BA2F4B51AE7"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Matters</header><text>The assessment conducted under subsection (a) shall include an assessment of—</text> <paragraph id="H8614669E05DE47C7B4157AFA18CEE1B4" display-inline="no-display-inline" commented="no"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the potential for artificial intelligence and high-performance computing technologies to expedite generator and load interconnection studies; </text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="HDDEE7BBB5F1141B1BD35B84771527753"><enum>(2)</enum><text>the current applications, and levels of adoption, of artificial intelligence and high-performance computing technologies with respect to the operation of the bulk-power system; and</text></paragraph> <paragraph id="HF89808F5383349BFA54CD9F1CF6CBB18"><enum>(3)</enum><text>any technical, regulatory, cybersecurity, or operational limitation affecting such adoption.</text></paragraph> </subsection> 
<subsection id="H2BEE8FCD26944CB0B828DD3F201A9B31"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Report</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Not later than one year after the date of enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Energy shall submit to the Committee on Energy and Commerce of the House of Representatives and the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources of the Senate a report on the assessment conducted under subsection (a), including recommendations to—</text> <paragraph id="H909213D1DC874E608CA60C4625A3DBA7"><enum>(1)</enum><text>overcome any limitation assessed under subsection (b)(3); and</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H6F61A45EBC864296B90C564291CBAC0A"><enum>(2)</enum><text>facilitate the adoption and integration of artificial intelligence and high-performance computing technologies with respect to the operation of the bulk-power system.</text></paragraph></subsection> <subsection id="HB0AB1D653A414425A77B7A8EF96FCD0A"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Definitions</header><text>In this section, the terms <quote>bulk-power system</quote>, <quote>Electric Reliability Organization</quote>, and <quote>reliable operation</quote> have the meanings given those terms in section 215(a) of the Federal Power Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/16/824o">16 U.S.C. 824o(a)</external-xref>).</text> </subsection></section>
