<section section-type="section-one" id="HF1282C1F8DF54C1E86CA76E198BFAA93"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>COPS Reauthorization Act of 2026</short-title></quote>.</text></section> <section section-type="subsequent-section" id="H74690F6836EB4ACF8D8C7235808072F1"><enum>2.</enum><header>Reauthorization of COPS ON THE BEAT grant program</header> <subsection id="H187E570F30B8414C869446198B57A115"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 1001(a)(11)(A) of title I of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/34/10261">34 U.S.C. 10261(a)(11)(A)</external-xref>) is amended by striking <quote>$1,047,119,000 for each of fiscal years 2006 through 2009</quote> and inserting <quote>$1,047,119,000 for each of fiscal years 2026 through 2031</quote>.</text></subsection> 
<subsection id="H3E26218D449A46829F313F69551239A2"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Clarification of authority</header><text>Title I of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/34/10101">34 U.S.C. 10101 et seq.</external-xref>) is amended by adding at the end the following: </text> <quoted-block style="OLC" id="H4F738F59A32547A89533CD2CDB5C98CD" display-inline="no-display-inline"> <part id="HBDDCD4F49A0A4198B786F4395E874230"><enum>PP</enum><header>Office of Community Oriented Policing Services</header> <section id="HBB5E57CA0646460C9C4CC35E6FB5C9BD"><enum>3061.</enum><header>Office of Community Oriented Policing Services</header> <subsection id="HBF31631EDCA748DEAB3C587660212159"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">There is established within the Department of Justice, under the general authority of the Attorney General, the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (referred to in this section as the <quote>COPS Office</quote>).</text></subsection> 
<subsection id="HF365166843EB41FD8C95B7CD8A100241"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Separate office</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The COPS Office shall be a separate and distinct office within the Department, headed by a Director, appointed by the President, who shall report to the Attorney General and who shall have final authority over all grants, cooperative agreements, and contracts awarded by such Office. </text></subsection></section></part><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subsection></section> </legis-body></bill>
