<section id="H66BE10650BED4516AE97BB6B4E30E249" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Safe Water in Schools Act of 2026</short-title></quote>.</text></section> <section id="HEDD0537F7BFE4AB9834C1AC204A0D35D" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Lead contamination in school drinking water</header> <subsection id="H27D75936FA2448E7A177A44B8095DD6B"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Point-of-use filtration systems</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 1464(d)(2) of the Safe Drinking Water Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/300j-24">42 U.S.C. 300j–24(d)(2)</external-xref>) is amended by adding at the end the following:</text>

<subparagraph id="H69527910816C43A19FA35E738A5AB92A"><enum>(D)</enum><header>Point-of-use filtration systems</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In carrying out the grant program under subparagraph (A), the Administrator shall make grants to local educational agencies to provide certified point-of-use filtration systems described in section 1459A(b)(2)(D) at schools and child care programs under the jurisdiction of those local educational agencies—</text> <clause id="H82D687B8158B4DF4B7F8F3CE2D6B4AFA"><enum>(i)</enum><text>as a preventative measure to reduce potential exposure to lead contamination in drinking water prior to testing for such contamination, as determined appropriate by the Administrator; and</text></clause> 
<clause id="H822710E5EE02432DBB851FD2D8844FA0"><enum>(ii)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">for purposes of remediation of lead contamination in drinking water under this paragraph.</text></clause></subparagraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block> </subsection> <subsection id="H8562982C0E4D4763B8E5A30123759518"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Authorization of appropriations</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 1464(d)(8) of the Safe Drinking Water Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/300j-24">42 U.S.C. 300j–24(d)(8)</external-xref>) is amended by striking subparagraphs (A) through (E) and inserting the following:</text>

<subparagraph id="HA566D820436D4D63A1CC69A1F03C5EBF"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">$60,000,000 for fiscal year 2026;</text></subparagraph> <subparagraph id="H3D3497B41B534FDD9651BE05CBFD5D7C"><enum>(B)</enum><text>$63,000,000 for fiscal year 2027;</text></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="H0715CBDD2ED64A9684ADA85823A7C8D9"><enum>(C)</enum><text>$66,000,000 for fiscal year 2028;</text></subparagraph> <subparagraph id="H8DAF08B1F015485399FDC4E2A3562EDB"><enum>(D)</enum><text>$69,000,000 for fiscal year 2029; and</text></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="H808E3EE4F70040EAB949C2385CE4195B"><enum>(E)</enum><text>$72,000,000 for fiscal year 2030.</text></subparagraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block> </subsection> </section> </legis-body></bill>
