1.

Short title

This Act may be cited as the Save SNAP Act of 2026.

2.

Benefit cost shift fairness

Section 4(a) of the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 (7 U.S.C. 2013(a)) is amended— (1)in paragraph (3) by striking The Secretary by inserting the following: (A)

In general

The Secretary; and (2)by adding at the end the following: (B)

Hardship exception

Notwithstanding subparagraph (A), if a State cannot pay the applicable State cost share in paragraph (2)(B)(i) for any reason— (i) the Secretary shall pay for the full cost of an allotment described in paragraph (1) for any fiscal year; and (ii) paragraph (2) shall not apply with respect to such State for such fiscal year. .

Effective date

This Act and the amendments made by this Act shall take effect on October 1, 2026.
