<section section-type="section-one" id="H021783B18CFE459EA517BB905F81997C"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Criminal History Access Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section> <section id="H42ACA3B51A0C405A9B181E9111758CB8"><enum>2.</enum><header>Federal Bureau of Investigation</header> <subsection id="H126F2FE9B5A64E56BD8A4ED3D3A86BD6"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Attorney general duties</header><text>Section 534 of title 28, United States Code, is amended—</text>
<paragraph id="H4F61D8C0D3B1480D8BFF19FC64577906"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">in subsection (a)(4), by amending to read as follows:</text> <quoted-block style="OLC" id="H34F943D6551E4468B3E7CE6679B19364" display-inline="no-display-inline"> <paragraph id="HC3FFB26C80744D91996EDD8E59D01743"><enum>(4)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">exchange such records and information with, and for the official use of, authorized officials of the Federal Government, including the United States Sentencing Commission, the States, including State sentencing commissions and peace officer standards and training agencies, Indian tribes, cities, and penal and other institutions; and</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>;</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph>
<paragraph id="HB49A08EC110744C79178D67D2667BB7C"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in subsection (e)—</text> <subparagraph id="H5DE79694F96440ED86DFB7249F67CE29"><enum>(A)</enum><text>by striking <quote>section, the term</quote> and inserting the following:</text>
<quoted-block style="OLC" id="HFBCFD20F124A416885A006BF2F365F12" display-inline="yes-display-inline"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">section—</text> <paragraph id="HE20400B6670A40C4BD031F797AD99969"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the term</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>;</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subparagraph>
<subparagraph id="HC85FF919CA524A71BB71AC4BCBAE0365"><enum>(B)</enum><text>by striking <quote><header-in-text level="paragraph" style="OLC"><enum-in-header>(1)</enum-in-header></header-in-text> railroad</quote> and inserting the following:</text> <quoted-block style="OLC" id="H1035BCB273214F13A224D1D4CFFF185C" display-inline="no-display-inline"> <subparagraph id="H9DE11C0786B94B108FCEA64CDE8CA539"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">railroad</text></subparagraph><after-quoted-block>;</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subparagraph>
<subparagraph id="H663930EA92A9447885FF774D3266DE09"><enum>(C)</enum><text>by striking <quote><header-in-text level="paragraph" style="OLC"><enum-in-header>(2)</enum-in-header></header-in-text> police</quote> and inserting the following:</text> <quoted-block style="OLC" id="H2E4859611B4E48DEA18519F1A9F03E17" display-inline="no-display-inline"> <subparagraph id="HB67E048F733A4DAA8A0F038F68D40D49"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">police</text></subparagraph><after-quoted-block>;</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subparagraph>
<subparagraph id="HFF601205F199436BABAB4A375E369929"><enum>(D)</enum><text>by striking the period at the end and inserting a semicolon; and</text></subparagraph> <subparagraph id="H055E164D556A442A8B1BF3ED6E53D9ED"><enum>(E)</enum><text>by adding at the end the following:</text>

<paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HCB5385DB707D4B4F86A814F5BE1A0C2A"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the term <term>peace officer standards and training agency</term> means an agency of a State with the statutory authority under State law to set standards for the hiring, training, ethical conduct, and retention of the law enforcement officers of the State through certification, licensing, or other similar qualification process; and</text></paragraph> <paragraph id="HAECC87C4BB8E4A9FA7FBC699AA6FF860"><enum>(3)</enum><text>the term <term>State</term> means each of the several States of the United States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the United States Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and any territory or possession of the United States.</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subparagraph></paragraph></subsection>
<subsection id="H3AB143CB96744189ADA73294D1B6EFA4"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Regulations</header><text>Not later than 180 days after the date of enactment of this Act, the Attorney General shall amend section part 20 of title 28, Code of Federal Regulations, as necessary to carry out the provisions of this Act.</text></subsection></section> </legis-body></bill>
