<section id="H5CE86929AEE7412DB4423E25E415576E" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header>
 <text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Tech Diplomacy Training Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section> 
<section id="HACB7304FB27F49AE88041E06DFD41BF2"><enum>2.</enum><header>Requirement to complete certain science, technology, engineering, and mathematics training</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 708 of the Foreign Service Act of 1980 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/22/4028">22 U.S.C. 4028</external-xref>) is amended by adding at the end the following new subsection:</text> <quoted-block style="OLC" id="H3B8A4DD07F5B4952BC14DDA2164F3A17" display-inline="no-display-inline"> <subsection id="H1735ABB3D8C94AD888E384B75A9FA95D"><enum>(f)</enum><header>STEM Training</header> <paragraph id="H8AF5727B68714C579AA99BF6E3F0FB95"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary of State, acting through the Director of the George P. Shultz National Foreign Affairs Training Center, shall establish and conduct training on—</text> 
<subparagraph id="H84CD77C6A28D4C1BA1AFA9F622B99983"><enum>(A)</enum><text>matters related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, including—</text> <clause id="H8384FDFCEF614E058ACB273212AB8D65"><enum>(i)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">artificial intelligence;</text></clause> 
<clause id="HF5218E5ECF8846A0BD43AD19B9CCFF23"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>next generation communications;</text></clause> <clause id="H05892162CFE848639424B20F09195150"><enum>(iii)</enum><text>technological advancements made in different geographic regions;</text></clause> 
<clause id="H964D4FAAE7564EE0878C1854F662D80E"><enum>(iv)</enum><text>how such topics affect diplomacy; and</text></clause> <clause id="HDD0C3B8A8BD54D1F97C69AC06AB1094D"><enum>(v)</enum><text>any other training with respect to such matters that such secretary determines critical to the Foreign Service;</text></clause></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="H41A6EB63F6F6478C9C810967A314DFA8" commented="no"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">how the United States may utilize emerging science, technology, engineering, and mathematics matters as a tool of diplomacy; and</text></subparagraph> <subparagraph id="HAE3B7DF105B5464ABD1EB72CF8DB1DEE"><enum>(C)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">how United States adversaries and national security threats, as identified in the National Security Strategy most recently published by the President on the date on which such training is conducted, utilize technology—</text> 
<clause id="H161E3386BE414CDFA3D322B3C13B42F8"><enum>(i)</enum><text>to undermine United States diplomacy; and</text></clause> <clause id="H8252589BDAB94F4890262AD51340B0B2"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>when engaging in diplomacy.</text></clause></subparagraph></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H023E22B3150D401E96E80366B9A09986"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Condensed training</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary of State, acting through the Director of the George P. Shultz National Foreign Affairs Training Center, shall establish a condensed training curriculum on the matters described in paragraph (1).</text></paragraph> <paragraph id="H0A63FF06153743A69FC88CEADC544FFF"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Required training</header> <subparagraph id="HA7EBACD3C28449DDB6FC44824B1A81B3"><enum>(A)</enum><header>In general</header><text>The training described under paragraph (1) shall be included in the A–100 course attended by each Foreign Service officer.</text> </subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="HFB8FA464C96C4D7C9DD4853955B23F7C" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(B)</enum><header>Existing officers</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">With respect to an officer serving in the Foreign Service on the date of the enactment of the Tech Diplomacy Training Act and who has completed the A–100 course—</text> <clause id="H45B2519DA7DB416686BCD68BCE20ACFF"><enum>(i)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the training described under paragraph (1) shall be completed not later than 18 months after such date of enactment; or</text></clause> 
<clause id="HB1FF5B0E1E404A6D9A39C777D4936BEC"><enum>(ii)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the training described under paragraph (2) shall be completed not later than 270 days after such date of enactment.</text></clause></subparagraph></paragraph> <paragraph id="H7C36D7C73F3D4E14851C71D40550131C"><enum>(4)</enum><header>Relation to existing training</header><text>The training required by this subsection shall be in addition to and conducted separate from each other training required to be completed by a Foreign Service officer.</text></paragraph></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block> </section>
