<section id="HE449046B4E434779B9A64C1D3C85404C" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Competition and Openness in Markets to Promote Efficiency, Transparency, and Enhanced affordability Act</short-title></quote> or the <quote><short-title>COMPETE Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section> <section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HFA1B5B5236CD4D0D9CF20A5406262220"><enum>2.</enum><header>Short-term limited duration insurance</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 2791(b) of the Public Health Service Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/300gg-91">42 U.S.C. 300gg–91(b)</external-xref>) is amended by adding at the end the following:</text>

<paragraph id="HD31F0BACB3C3436DBE88FF6B309B2C85"><enum>(6)</enum><header>Short-term limited duration insurance</header><text>The term <term>short-term limited duration insurance</term> means a plan providing health insurance coverage pursuant to a contract with a health insurance issuer—</text> <subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H65E4A93734FC487AAF89586DCE405619"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">that has an expiration date specified in the contract that is not more than 12 months after the original effective date of the contract; and</text></subparagraph>
<subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H968BBEA11A704B23AEEE18FBC305EBB6"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">which may include a renewal guarantee that permits a policyholder to elect to purchase, for periods of time following expiration of the initial contract, another policy or policies at some future date, at a premium that would not reflect any additional underwriting.</text></subparagraph></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></section> </legis-body></bill>
