<section id="H7041E48915D343878C34ED1FDCB766EA" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Veteran Infection Prevention Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section> <section id="H1DF345CC8DBE4F3D855E9015AB71778C" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Professional certification requirement for sterile processing technicians of the Veterans Health Administration</header> <subsection id="H812318775B7646EA9AD3B40105D53510"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Requirement</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 7402(b) of title 38, United States Code, is amended—</text> 
<paragraph id="H17C2568BFC3041458237979507E1DC4E"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by redesignating paragraph (14) as (15); and</text></paragraph> <paragraph id="H61482FF4E0B14E4E8ABD97F80DDEFD90"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by inserting after paragraph (13) the following new paragraph:</text>

<paragraph id="H159405B8A08A4718A24BE7F843620237" indent="up1"><enum>(14)</enum><header>Sterile processing technician</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">To be eligible to be appointed to a sterile processing technician position (except for such a position that the Secretary determines is entry level), a person must be certified as a sterile processing technician by an accredited institution engaged in providing sterile processing technician training not later than two years after such an appointment.</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></subsection> <subsection id="H510E6A07B21D4230B4842C1BC9ADE371"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Current employees</header> <paragraph id="HEC1E099350A14EE78AB2335DD12AAA11"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Applicability</header><text>The amendment made by subsection (a) shall apply to a covered employee two years after the date of the enactment of this Act.</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="HA227A6AC809F4F28B26D3CF698F8912D" commented="no"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Employee Incentive Scholarship Program</header> 
<subparagraph id="H80573A17B40B44BC8D58E99D9810FE51" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(A)</enum><header>Requirement</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary of Veterans Affairs shall award to a covered employee a scholarship under subchapter VI of <external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/38/76">chapter 76</external-xref> of title 38, United States Code, for certification described in of section 7402(b)(14) of such title, as amended by subsection (a).</text></subparagraph> <subparagraph id="H2D2076C9A5A3450487D0E2E811DDB78C" commented="no"><enum>(B)</enum><header>Period of obligated service</header><text>Notwithstanding section 7672(e) of such title, the period of obligated service of a covered employee awarded a scholarship pursuant to subparagraph (A) shall be a period of two years beginning on the day that the covered employee receives such certification.</text></subparagraph> </paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H20A4AF0161E94F6BBC65F422B2352EB4" commented="no"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Covered employee defined</header><text>In this subsection, the term <quote>covered employee</quote> means a person—</text> <subparagraph id="H83D7F2D3A19C4841900D38763E896656" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">occupying a sterile processing technician position in the Veterans Health Administration on the date of the enactment of this Act; and</text></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="H30CFDE06C518435FA2853843D1B5725A" commented="no"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">who, on such date, is not certified as a sterile processing technician by an accredited institution engaged in providing sterile processing technician training.</text></subparagraph> </paragraph></subsection></section> </legis-body></bill>
