<section id="HC794F3CDC2A649A0A88A6298A5E13C9F" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Supporting VA Families Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section> <section id="HB7EA34C5EEEC44B6AED27150B07F5D6B"><enum>2.</enum><header>Supplemental period of unpaid parental leave for Department of Veterans Affairs employees</header> <subsection id="H02BBEC9F24F94F18BAB0E2701655BA34"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Unpaid parental leave</header> <paragraph id="H504FF766AF7B471E9247D0BEDFDE205B"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In general</header><text>Notwithstanding section 7421 of title 38, United States Code, or any other provision of law, an employee of the Department of Veterans Affairs (including an employee who is appointed in the Veterans Health Administration under any provision of chapter 74 of such title on a full-time basis in a position listed in section 7421(b) of such title) shall be entitled to four administrative weeks of leave without pay during any 12-month period due to—</text> 
<subparagraph id="HE2C22D3346B9491EA18434BA6EE89645"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the birth of a son or daughter of the employee and to care for such son or daughter; or</text></subparagraph> <subparagraph id="H607728F3A2A44D2F82FFEFF956D58C74"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the placement of a son or daughter with the employee for adoption or foster care.</text></subparagraph></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="HFEA0B692A4E44C20AEA2661E0E0BA5B0"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Expiration</header><text>The entitlement to leave under paragraph (1) shall expire at the end of the 12-month period beginning on the date of such birth or placement.</text></paragraph></subsection> <subsection id="HA097DE7C3D1C485FB085E8BEFBD272F5"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Supplement, not supplant</header><text>The entitlement to leave under subsection (a) shall be in addition to any entitlement to leave under subchapter V of <external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/5/63">chapter 63</external-xref> of title 5, United States Code, or, as applicable, section 7425(c) of title 38, United States Code.</text></subsection> 
<subsection id="HAFBF102081354ED3AD7B7085EF88AC02"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Definitions</header><text>In this section, the terms <term>employee</term> and <term>son or daughter</term> have the meanings given such terms in section 6831 of title 5, United States Code.</text></subsection></section> </legis-body></bill>
