R. 7925</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20260312">March 12, 2026</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S001214">Mr. Steube</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="B001309">Mr. Burchett</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HWM00">Committee on Ways and Means</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 to limit the eligibility of aliens to receive benefits under the temporary assistance for needy families program, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H46F3A00A39064D6C9C7F2BE5E69708F9" style="OLC"><section id="H7A70E0E54808428180D52C71C4A0B311" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>American Families First Assistance Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="HE23BC3904B42472283D600276BD1AE1A"><enum>2.</enum><header>Alien eligibility for temporary assistance for needy families</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 402 of the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/8/1612">8 U.S.C. 1612</external-xref>) is amended—</text><paragraph id="H0D1E0466737D4C9D9224A33D112950AA"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in subsection (b)(3), by repealing subparagraph (A); and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HAA74591E6CB54A06AA053A7C776B3C0D"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by adding at the end the following: </text><quoted-block style="OLC" id="HCF082C506015425685A230EDD45A0BF2" display-inline="no-display-inline"><subsection id="HAEA0584F2FF841AFBE256A7809E589A1"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Limited eligibility for temporary assistance for needy families</header><paragraph id="H54275956DDE3426A83FF5A976234CCA7"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Notwithstanding any other provision of law and except as provided in paragraph (2), an alien who is a qualified alien (as defined in section 431) is not eligible for the program of block grants to States for temporary assistance for needy families under part A of title IV of the Social Security Act.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H442976892F6C405AA74464501533DF6F"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Exception</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Paragraph (1) shall not apply to an alien who is described in paragraph (1), (7) (with respect to a national of Cuba), or (8) of section 431(b). </text></paragraph></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></section></legis-body></bill>
