<section id="H34DCFAF0D73C4592BE4BE4ABFD50C3C8" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Halo Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section> <section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HB2B1C3893BCA4F0EA75B24028E3068B8"><enum>2.</enum><header>Criminal penalty for obstructing immigration enforcement activities</header> <subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H142C0E2E37D8433CAF8CB0682EC7FFEC"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text><external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/18/73">Chapter 73</external-xref> of title 18, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following:</text>

<section id="H83618EC465764622B4ED6B6EE185498C"><enum>1522.</enum><header>Obstructing immigration enforcement activities</header> 
<subsection id="HF42467BED043417CA93079838B586455"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Definitions</header><text>In this section:</text> <paragraph id="H19CED686EE1449ABB85A7C9536BB2AEE"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Federal immigration enforcement officer</header><text>The term <term>Federal immigration enforcement officer</term> means any officer, agent, or employee of the United States authorized by law or by a government agency to engage in or supervise the prevention, detection, investigation, or prosecution of any violation of Federal immigration law.</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H79AC842D6629483CBD51655AB82F97FE"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Harass</header><text>The term <term>harass</term> means to knowingly engage in a course of conduct directed at a Federal immigration enforcement officer that intentionally causes substantial emotional distress in that Federal immigration enforcement officer and serves no legitimate purpose.</text></paragraph></subsection> <subsection id="HC80B2A659B334C0EA33A376B29F4827C"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Offense</header><text>It shall be unlawful for a person, after receiving a verbal warning not to approach from an individual whom the person knows or reasonably should know is a Federal immigration enforcement officer, and who is engaged in the lawful performance of a legal duty, to knowingly violate the warning and approach or remain within 25 feet of the Federal immigration enforcement officer with the intent to—</text> 
<paragraph id="H0EC1E1CE99BB467CA4E8B597A67FFC8F"><enum>(1)</enum><text>impede or interfere with the ability of the Federal immigration enforcement officer to perform that legal duty;</text></paragraph> <paragraph id="H28562E210CA746B7BBD8B9B0BC44872C"><enum>(2)</enum><text>threaten the Federal immigration enforcement officer with physical harm; or</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H6DC7FE68CEBD482F962DEFB18F1AE335"><enum>(3)</enum><text>harass the Federal immigration enforcement officer.</text></paragraph></subsection> <subsection id="HFA5F5F81BA5E47E089264F646DC6C904"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Penalty</header><text>Any person who violates subsection (b) shall be fined under this title, imprisoned for not more than 5 years, or both.</text></subsection></section><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subsection>
