<section section-type="section-one" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H79DBDB4F1A2441898E06FBA152295ECD"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short Title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Public Housing Rent Reduction for First Responders Act</short-title></quote>. </text></section> 
<section id="H79DBDB4F1A2441898E06FBAA52295ECD" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Supporting affordability and safety for public servants</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 3(a) of the United States Housing Act of 1937 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/1437a">42 U.S.C. 1437a(a)</external-xref>) is amended—</text> <paragraph id="H6ED8899D04DD4E4DACA5DBCD8A4014E7"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in paragraph (1), by striking <quote>Except as provided in paragraph (2)</quote> and inserting <quote>Except as provided in paragraphs (2) and (4)</quote>; and</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H3BAB9F82866A486C99BBB8EB685F04DB"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in paragraph (4)—</text> <subparagraph id="H38CC0642848A4085B63D0FE41318999D"><enum>(A)</enum><text>in the heading, by striking <quote><header-in-text level="paragraph" style="OLC">Occupancy by police officers</header-in-text></quote> and inserting, <quote><header-in-text level="paragraph" style="OLC">Occupancy by police officers, firefighters, and emergency medical technicians</header-in-text></quote>; </text></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="HF5D9078294B94AD89D8B354E572B9BAA"><enum>(B)</enum><text>by redesignating subparagraph (C) as subparagraph (D); </text></subparagraph> <subparagraph id="H90A78859076848EC95B6FA47549004B2"><enum>(C)</enum><text>by inserting after subparagraph (B) the following:</text>

<subparagraph id="HFEDAA8617DE744DBB3192DFD262678D9"><enum>(C)</enum><header>Rental payments</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Notwithstanding paragraph (1), a family of which one or more members are a police officer, firefighter, or emergency medical technician shall pay as rent for a dwelling unit assisted under this Act the highest of the following amounts, rounded to the nearest dollar:</text> <clause id="HA3E31BEBECEB4B71BFF8B841E0B5731C"><enum>(i)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">15 per centum of the family's monthly adjusted income; or</text></clause> 
<clause id="H7170586813FE4A64A7CE70B5F0E3ED38"><enum>(ii)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">5 per centum of the family's monthly income</text></clause></subparagraph><after-quoted-block>; and</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subparagraph> <subparagraph id="H81E326E1E3A0400A8F691EB1EAB6C747"><enum>(D)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by amending subparagraph (D), as so redesignated, to read as follows:</text>

<subparagraph id="H1110777D3E214B07A512EBF131167B4C"><enum>(D)</enum><header>Definitions</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In this paragraph:</text> <clause id="HAC97AE773B754D8BAD0B2E653CBE30DD"><enum>(i)</enum><header>Police officer</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The term <quote>police officer</quote> means any person determined by a public housing agency to be, during the period of residence of that person in public housing, employed on a full-time basis as a duly licensed professional police officer by a Federal, State, or local government or by any agency thereof (including a public housing agency having an accredited police force).</text></clause> 
<clause id="H72110BD3406D4DD4A79C427EF96B926C"><enum>(ii)</enum><header>Firefighter</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The term <quote>firefighter</quote> means any person determined by a public housing agency to be, during the period of residence of that person in public housing, employed on a full-time basis as a firefighter by a fire department or emergency medical services responder unit of the Federal Government, a State, unit of general local government, or an Indian tribal government.</text></clause> <clause id="H20740484252C424E964AFE64079678B0"><enum>(iii)</enum><header>Emergency medical technician</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The term <quote>emergency medical technician</quote> means any person determined by a public housing agency to be, during the period of residence of that person in public housing, employed on a full-time basis as an emergency medical technician by a fire department or emergency medical services responder unit of the Federal Government, a State, unit of general local government, or an Indian tribal government.</text></clause></subparagraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subparagraph></paragraph></section>
