To require verification of employment authorization through the E-Verify Program as a condition of issuance or renewal of a commercial driver’s license.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,
This Act may be cited as the “Verification of Employment and Residency Integrity For Commercial Driver’s Licenses Act” or the “VERIFY CDL Act”.
SEC. 2. E-Verify requirement for commercial driver’s license issuance and renewal.
Section 31305(b)(2) of title 49, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following:
“(3) A State may issue or renew any commercial driver’s license only if the individual’s authorization to be employed in the United States has been verified through the E-Verify Program (as defined in section 403(a) of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 (8 U.S.C. 1324a note)) at the time of application for issuance or renewal of such license.”.
