<section id="H849ADD7CE5224E70A81FB9CAE82C5A79" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Medal of Honor Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section> <section id="HDE358B121D024DFC994F91618B7DECCF"><enum>2.</enum><header>Findings</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Congress finds the following:</text> 
<paragraph id="HB2AD7275A938466B8F797FA0F1C97C19"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Medal of Honor is the highest and most prestigious military decoration of the United States.</text></paragraph> <paragraph id="HA0C6BD562E8344E0B3136B7E916636D9"><enum>(2)</enum><text>To earn the Medal of Honor <quote>the deed of the person … must be so outstanding that it clearly distinguishes his gallantry beyond the call of duty from lesser forms of bravery</quote>.</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H6A421834DC1D4DEF967A0EDD6B3E072D"><enum>(3)</enum><text>The actions of Medal of Honor recipients inspire bravery, and the willingness to give all, in those who serve in the Armed Forces and those who will serve in the future.</text></paragraph> <paragraph id="H8C108D5F1B614C28B2AEFE43B496C8B0"><enum>(4)</enum><text>Those listed on the Medal of Honor Roll exemplify the best traits of members of the Armed Forces, a long and proud lineage of those who went beyond the call of duty.</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="HBD5F47B0E83C45F3845F14536C96D91C"><enum>(5)</enum><text>Pursuant to section 1562 of title 38, United States Code, the Secretary of Veterans Affairs shall pay monthly to each living person whose name has been entered on the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard Medal of Honor Roll a special pension.</text></paragraph> <paragraph id="H211F500E0C944EDBBE13967A6BB162B1"><enum>(6)</enum><text>Recipients of the Medal of Honor have earned a substantial and historic increase to such special pension in recognition of their conspicuous gallantry, unwavering commitment, and heroic actions above and beyond the call of duty.</text></paragraph></section> 
<section id="H1DFA73DAA3664BC8807B4425DC1B9728"><enum>3.</enum><header>Increase in Department of Veterans Affairs special pension payable to Medal of Honor recipients</header> 
<subsection id="H2A2C82BC340E472AA157CD9CD2902613"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Increase in special pension payable to living Medal of Honor recipients</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 1562(a)(1) of title 38, United States Code, is amended by striking <quote>$1,406.73</quote> and inserting <quote>$8,333.33</quote>.</text></subsection> <subsection id="H913FE6FE60F749A68C4C67B223D041F1"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Amount of special pension payable to surviving spouses</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 1562(a)(2)(A) of title 38, United States Code, is amended—</text> 
<paragraph id="H73DA140834DB405FB43F7966D10C2DA0"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by striking <quote>special pension under this section</quote> and inserting <quote>monthly</quote>; and</text></paragraph> <paragraph id="H09BA99941C4C41289DCE7D718C10EAB2"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by striking the period and adding at the end the following: <quote>a special pension under this section at the rate of $1,406.73, as adjusted from time to time under subsection (e).</quote>.</text></paragraph></subsection></section>
