<section id="H34516764D24E455181D4EA1211A505FA" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header>
 <text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Parole Relief Offering Troops Expedited Compassionate Treatment of Military Families Act</short-title></quote> or as the <quote><short-title>PROTECT Military Families Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section> 
<section id="H91DC83674F4B4BD395ECFC6EFA45C04F" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Parole for certain relatives of current and former members of the Armed Forces</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 212(d)(5) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/8/1182">8 U.S.C. 1182(d)(5)</external-xref>) is amended—</text> <paragraph id="H37EF791D3EED4BAD983388CBC3E59565"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in subparagraph (A), by striking <quote>subparagraph (B) or</quote> and inserting <quote>subparagraphs (B) and (C) and</quote>;</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H5C7EAF133AEE43918E708518166858DD"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by striking <quote>Attorney General</quote> each place such term appears and inserting <quote>Secretary of Homeland Security</quote>; and</text></paragraph> <paragraph id="H4732072EC20C4F0AA44C2D97AC7DFED2"><enum>(3)</enum><text>by adding at the end the following:</text>

<subparagraph id="H61EADA92BF644248A482C48B84154DC8" indent="up2"><enum>(C)</enum> 
<clause commented="no" display-inline="yes-display-inline" id="HC4C1C82BD58E443896A258E70C23809C"><enum>(i)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Except as provided in clause (iii), the Secretary of Homeland Security shall parole into the United States an alien who is the spouse, widow or widower, parent, or child of—</text> <subclause id="H8E58C0CC9F334562849EF617174E9B55" indent="up1"><enum>(I)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">a member of the Armed Forces on active duty;</text></subclause> 
<subclause id="H10E89C10FBFA46278C7D78C873AF0C2D" indent="up1"><enum>(II)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">a member of the Selected Reserve of the Ready Reserve; or</text></subclause> <subclause id="HD9187AABCC8D4C40B3E51AEAA29EBD7F" indent="up1"><enum>(III)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">an individual, whether living or deceased, who—</text> 
<item id="HC8984CCFFB98480EA74617A946E2AF58"><enum>(aa)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">previously served as—</text> <subitem id="HBED6F021D394464A98F545D61415F6A8"><enum>(AA)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">a member of the Armed Forces on active duty; or</text></subitem> 
<subitem id="H4B7C1F600ABA492EBBC6997973C6E928"><enum>(BB)</enum><text>a member of the Selected Reserve of the Ready Reserve; and</text></subitem></item> <item id="HA792A989B15A4C7583E6B2E2F2AF8A8E"><enum>(bb)</enum><text>was discharged or released from such service under a condition other than dishonorable.</text></item></subclause></clause> 
<clause id="H3968458A30374D05806751136F0F79E2" indent="up1"><enum>(ii)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary of Homeland Security shall parole an alien into the United States under clause (i) in 1-year increments.</text></clause> <clause id="H7E5021913B2840E2BD4D89AABFB9BA60" indent="up1"><enum>(iii)</enum> <subclause commented="no" display-inline="yes-display-inline" id="HBA2D5C27317C440CA48BE796BB7ABCC6"><enum>(I)</enum><text>An application for parole under this subparagraph may be denied only if the Secretary of Homeland Security, the Secretary of Defense, and the Secretary of Veterans Affairs jointly issue a written justification for the denial.</text></subclause> 
<subclause id="H6AA29639EFD8428594D0B999D2057584" indent="up1"><enum>(II)</enum><text>The Secretary of Homeland Security, the Secretary of Defense, and the Secretary of Veterans Affairs may not delegate the responsibility described in subclause (I).</text></subclause> <subclause id="HCA6C781DC84A44A38BC08B1B03799D7D" indent="up1"><enum>(III)</enum> <item commented="no" display-inline="yes-display-inline" id="H426683DEC1054C0D93D736BFBE140825"><enum>(aa)</enum><text>In the case of a denial under subclause (I), the Secretary of Homeland Security shall publish on a publicly available internet website of the Department of Homeland Security information about the denial, including a detailed justification for the denial.</text></item> 
<item id="H4EEF19E94FC2429483595BEB80AB5EE0" indent="up1"><enum>(bb)</enum><text>Information published under item (aa) shall not include personally identifiable information.</text></item></subclause></clause></subparagraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></section> </legis-body></bill>
