R. 6585</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20251210">December 10, 2025</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="N000193">Mr. Nunn of Iowa</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="D000230">Mr. Davis of North Carolina</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HVR00">Committee on Veterans' Affairs</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To direct the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to temporarily extend the period during which certain individuals may file claims for medical care under the CHAMPVA program of the Department of Veterans Affairs, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="HBD2C154429BA4BD7A69B9F93DFDC7333" style="OLC"><section id="H49DC3E17C9CB439B81F85DCE30929D6A" commented="no" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Temporary extension of period during which certain individuals may file claims for medical care under CHAMPVA program</header><subsection id="HCC6395DB20F147499C77258CBC696A48" commented="no"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">With respect to a covered individual who seeks retroactive approval for medical care under section 1781 of title 38, United States Code, the Secretary of Veterans Affairs shall ensure, during the period beginning on the date of the enactment of this Act and ending on September 30, 2027, if such individual is retroactively approved, the period during which the covered individual may file a claim for such medical care—</text><paragraph id="HB406FE92803B4DD8B499CB2385ABD943" commented="no"><enum>(1)</enum><text>begins on the date on which the individual receives notice of such retroactive approval; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HED94AACE1539418D9E3C906B3AC42DBD" commented="no"><enum>(2)</enum><text>ends not earlier than 365 days after such date.</text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H94D75D5D29D04D918431F25D67E643B7" commented="no"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Regulations</header><text>The Secretary shall prescribe regulations to carry out subsection (a).</text></subsection><subsection id="HB8611F1511224F4FA8A6EB7113B56ACF" commented="no"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Covered individual defined</header><text>In this section, the term <quote>covered individual</quote> means an individual who is eligible for such medical care under such section and also entitled to hospital insurance benefits under part A of the program of health insurance administered by the Secretary of Health and Human Services under title XVIII of the Social Security Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/1395">42 U.S.C. 1395 et seq.</external-xref>).</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
