<section id="HD0C2C3AAAAD6405B818395CAC67491B7" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Protect American Widows Act of 2025</short-title></quote> or the <quote><short-title>PAW Act of 2025</short-title></quote>.</text></section> <section id="HC4FF1BE9E451436B841C0BDCAA2623B4"><enum>2.</enum><header>Surviving spouse definition expanded</header> <subsection id="HDC5249355C2542F4AEA46880BEC9B4A6"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline"><external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/26/2">Section 2(a)(1)(A)</external-xref> of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 is amended by striking <quote>two taxable years</quote> and inserting <quote>five taxable years</quote>.</text></subsection> 
<subsection id="HC1D2E4957AFE4D2BBE279EDF3C52A014"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text>The amendments made by this section shall apply to returns filed for taxable years beginning after December 31, 2024.</text></subsection></section> </legis-body></bill>
