<section id="H640EA7B809E1457C94C66973B5DBA2AB" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Stronger Schools Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section> <section id="H3149B73E26A4449299D8F91F2E776B65"><enum>2.</enum><header>Physical improvement grant program</header> <subsection id="H324A4D8EDBDE416BA71DFF48A083E51A"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary of Education shall make grants, on a competitive basis, to local educational agencies to perform the physical improvements referred to in subsection (b) for elementary schools and secondary schools served by such agencies.</text></subsection> 
<subsection id="HBD5EBB28347B4DD9AE38120053A8C0BD" commented="no"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Use of funds</header><text>Each local educational agency receiving a grant under subsection (a) shall use such funds to ensure each elementary school and secondary school served by such agency—</text> <paragraph id="H1D39EC458C474A74A9567373377283A3" commented="no"><enum>(1)</enum><text>hires a school resource officer who carries a firearm; and</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H06890C9CA326459C8EBF852FC42A65F9" commented="no"><enum>(2)</enum><text>establishes a single point of entry that includes a locked anteroom—</text> <subparagraph id="HF3AAE067A24E4CDAB1D905740DD74AAF"><enum>(A)</enum><text>in which all guests of such school are inspected by such officer prior to entry into another area of such school; and</text></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="HCB3A70D795C74B50BC5A8D5B6F66B410"><enum>(B)</enum><text>which has metal detectors at such point of entry.</text></subparagraph></paragraph></subsection> <subsection id="HF30A2E66D2E04529A4C6B3BD9B22E9E1"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Application</header><text>To receive a grant under subsection (a), a local educational agency shall submit to the Secretary an application at such time, in such manner, and containing such information as the Secretary may require.</text></subsection> 
<subsection id="H166E8B8C6E324C80B98DF2CC2FCB1952"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Report</header><text>Not later than 1 year after the date of the enactment of this section, the Secretary shall submit to Congress a report on the implementation of subsection (a).</text></subsection> <subsection id="HE7D778B3E7224B2B9631A7181014E07C"><enum>(e)</enum><header>Definitions</header><text>In this section:</text> 
<paragraph id="H94DECB0B9B804ABFB1ADE1371A28226C"><enum>(1)</enum><header>ESEA terms</header><text>The terms <term>elementary school</term>, <term>local educational agency</term>, <term>secondary school</term>, and <term>State educational agency</term> have the meaning given such terms in section 8101 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/20/7801">20 U.S.C. 7801</external-xref>).</text></paragraph> <paragraph id="H4E162D8FFBC54CE18BD79C6F0382127C"><enum>(2)</enum><header>School resource officer</header><text>The term <term>school resource officer</term> has the meaning given such term in section 1709 of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/34/10389">34 U.S.C. 10389</external-xref>).</text></paragraph></subsection></section>
