Eligibility of a dependent parent for survivors' and dependents' educational assistance

(a)

Eligibility

Section 3501(a)(1) of title 38, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following new subparagraph: (F)The dependent parent of a person described in subparagraph (A).. (b)

Conforming amendments

(1)

Cessation of eligibility

Section 3511(b) of title 38, United States Code, is amended, in paragraphs (1), (2), and (4), by striking parent or spouse each place it appears and inserting parent, spouse, or child. (2)

Periods of eligibility

Section 3512(b)(1)(A) of title 38, United States Code, is amended— (A)by striking subparagraph (B) or (D) of section 3501(a)(1) of this title and inserting subparagraph (B), (D), or (F) of section 3501(a)(1) of this title; and (B)by striking or 3501(a)(1)(E) of this title and inserting 3501(a)(1)(E), or 3501(a)(1)(F) of this title. (3)

Correspondence courses

Section 3534(b) of title 38, United States Code, is amended— (A)by striking eligible spouse or surviving spouse and inserting eligible spouse, surviving spouse, or eligible dependent parent; (B)by striking such spouse’s entitlement and inserting such spouse’s or dependent parent’s entitlement; and (C)by striking paid to the spouse and inserting paid to the spouse or dependent parent.
