                joint resolution; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>JOINT RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United
 States to provide for term limits for justices of the Supreme Court.</official-title></form><resolution-body style="constitutional-amendment" id="H671E7163885744DBA04D932C6CB6C905"><section display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section" id="H8858C5B45D6D4B8EB89906C1712C22E8"><text>That the following article is proposed as an amendment to the Constitution of the United States, which shall be valid to all intents and purposes as part of the Constitution when ratified by the legislatures of three-fourths of the several States:</text><quoted-block style="traditional" id="H702E325548C74A95A1762744C42A7C07" display-inline="no-display-inline"><constitution-article id="H1234"><enum> — </enum><section id="HD4159988E468433BBEEF3616D09C7340" section-type="undesignated-section" display-inline="no-display-inline"><text display-inline="no-display-inline">The tenure in office of a justice of the Supreme Court may not exceed 18 years. In the case of any justice who is serving as of the ratification of this amendment, if the tenure in office of that justice is 18 years or more, that term of that justice shall be terminated. If such a justice is the Chief Justice, the position shall be filled in accordance with law. </text></section></constitution-article><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></section></resolution-body></resolution>
