which was considered and agreed to</action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Designating December 14, 2024, as <quote>National Wreaths Across America Day</quote>.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas, 33 years before the date of adoption of this resolution, the Wreaths Across America project began with an annual tradition that occurs in December, of donating, transporting, and placing 5,000 Maine balsam fir veterans’ remembrance wreaths on the graves of the fallen heroes buried at Arlington National Cemetery;</text></whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas, in the 33 years preceding the date of adoption of this resolution, more than 20,000,000 wreaths have been sent to various locations, including national cemeteries and veterans’ memorials in every State and overseas; </text></whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas the mission of the Wreaths Across America project, to <quote>Remember, Honor, and Teach</quote>, is carried out in part by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies in all 50 States and overseas, including at—</text><paragraph id="ID03ba6b9dd2994882835411dd71952e60"><enum>(1)</enum><text>Arlington National Cemetery;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="IDd5db7e8bdf324389876fde38b468b821"><enum>(2)</enum><text>veterans’ cemeteries; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="IDd9f41fca058149b4b878428497aa2f1b"><enum>(3)</enum><text>other memorial locations; </text></paragraph></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the Wreaths Across America project carries out a week-long veterans' parade between the States of Maine and Virginia, stopping along the way to spread a message about the importance of—</text><paragraph id="IDede686d9429f49e78e6e2c66f23630bd"><enum>(1)</enum><text>remembering the fallen heroes of the United States;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="ID8daea4ad1c6f4f5390e5f5904039a9f1"><enum>(2)</enum><text>honoring those who serve and have served in the Armed Forces; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="IDf5a9de204b1f4ef29aa03a135f8a982d"><enum>(3)</enum><text>teaching the next generation of children about the service and sacrifices made by our veterans and their families to preserve freedoms enjoyed by all in the United States;</text></paragraph></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, in 2023, approximately 3,000,000 veterans’ remembrance wreaths were delivered to over 4,200 locations across the United States;</text></whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas, in December 2024, the tradition of escorting tractor-trailers filled with donated wreaths from Harrington, Maine, to Arlington National Cemetery will again be continued by—</text><paragraph id="ID16bff4a02cfe413086caeabac6ed535b"><enum>(1)</enum><text>the Patriot Guard Riders; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="IDd8a5f515921f48c1955c3d67a2f1c794"><enum>(2)</enum><text>other patriotic escort units, including—</text><subparagraph id="ID166ae0a6cd9448e087bb4547030f04f4"><enum>(A)</enum><text>motorcycle units;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="IDf81f37de61534e4992ea0207d66711c3"><enum>(B)</enum><text>law enforcement units; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="ID473fa30464e148b1938b6d7fce4f7707"><enum>(C)</enum><text>first responder units;</text></subparagraph></paragraph></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas hundreds of thousands of individuals volunteer each December to help lay veterans’ wreaths;</text></whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas the trucking industry in the United States will continue to support the Wreaths Across America project by providing drivers, equipment, and related services to assist in the transportation of wreaths across the United States to more than 4,600 locations;</text></whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas the Senate designated December 16, 2023, as <quote>Wreaths Across America Day</quote>; and</text></whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas, on December 14, 2024, the Wreaths Across America project will continue the proud legacy of bringing veterans’ wreaths to Arlington National Cemetery: Now, therefore, be it </text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body><section id="S1" display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section"><text>That the Senate—</text><paragraph id="ID5f455596d22442e7b4b91a3b9e22cd90"><enum>(1)</enum><text>designates December 14, 2024, as <quote>National Wreaths Across America Day</quote>;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="IDf100263519dd4f8386ccf182a5b83145"><enum>(2)</enum><text>honors—</text><subparagraph id="ID3a9af0cf565c4cab93a2090e7a123b3c"><enum>(A)</enum><text>the Wreaths Across America project;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="IDeb0c64affb1b42be83ad818a0bed49f1"><enum>(B)</enum><text>patriotic escort units, including—</text><clause id="ID32b055bd903f44b6afc67f570c18a8bb"><enum>(i)</enum><text>motorcycle units;</text></clause><clause id="ID7e9c7df9afcf4268a7251963a35b6823"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>law enforcement units; and</text></clause><clause id="IDf5626788763c438abf386f546afe8f25"><enum>(iii)</enum><text>first responder units;</text></clause></subparagraph><subparagraph id="ID2ce9d605870e4e63822be182f1268618"><enum>(C)</enum><text>the trucking industry in the United States; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="IDcfe6c4197a9e4e4196cd4ab99c071a56"><enum>(D)</enum><text>the millions of volunteers and donors involved in the worthy tradition of the Wreaths Across America project; and</text></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="ID6dc2565550394c3a9fb7d76f12633fd8"><enum>(3)</enum><text>recognizes—</text><subparagraph id="ID85819aa9f39941c48b7394a60d66f5b4"><enum>(A)</enum><text>the service of veterans and members of the Armed Forces; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="ID88be44f41b334a85840cb50280c189f1"><enum>(B)</enum><text>the sacrifices that veterans, members of the Armed Forces, and their family members have made, and continue to make, for the United States, a great Nation. </text></subparagraph></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
