RES. 916</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20241121">November 21, 2024</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S413">Mr. Padilla</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S424">Ms. Butler</cosponsor>) submitted the following resolution; which was considered and agreed to</action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Congratulating the Los Angeles Dodgers for winning the 2024 Major League Baseball World Series.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas, on October 30, 2024, the Los Angeles Dodgers (referred to in this preamble as the <quote>Dodgers</quote>) defeated the American League Champions, the New York Yankees, by 7–6 to win the 2024 Major League Baseball World Series in 5 games;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas this victory marks the eighth World Series championship for the Dodgers franchise and their seventh title since moving from Brooklyn to Los Angeles in 1958;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, during the 2024 playoffs, the Dodgers defeated the San Diego Padres, the New York Mets, and the New York Yankees en route to winning the World Series;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the Dodgers have won the National League West Division in 11 of the last 12 seasons, have won the National League pennant in 4 of the last 8 seasons, and have won the World Series in 2 of the last 5 seasons;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the Dodgers completed the 2024 regular season with a record of 98–64 to finish first in the National League West Division and with the best record in baseball;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the Dodgers matched a Major League Baseball postseason record with 33 consecutive scoreless innings;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas every member of the 2024 Dodgers roster played a key part in winning the World Series during this historic season;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman was named Most Valuable Player for the 2024 World Series after batting .300 with 4 home runs and 12 runs batted in, including a walk-off grand slam in Game 1 of the World Series on October 25, 2024; </text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Shohei Ohtani had one of the best regular seasons in history, hitting .310 with 54 home runs, 134 runs scored, and 130 runs batted in, all while stealing 59 bases, making him the first player in the history of Major League Baseball to have at least 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in a season;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Mookie Betts overcame a midseason injury before returning to play a central role in the Dodgers' 2024 postseason, earning his third World Series ring;</text></whereas><whereas commented="no"><text>Whereas Teoscar Hernández had an impressive regular season and postseason, was selected to the 2024 Major League Baseball All-Star Game, and won the Major League Baseball Home Run Derby, the first Dodger to ever win the contest;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Dodger Nation was deeply saddened by the passing, just days before the start of the 2024 World Series, of legendary pitcher Fernando Valenzuela;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Dodgers manager Dave Roberts recorded his second World Series Championship with the Dodgers; and</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Dodgers fans never stopped supporting the team throughout the 2024 season, playing a key role in motivating their team to victory: Now, therefore, be it</text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body><section id="S1" display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section"><text>That the Senate—</text><paragraph id="id353a8580439143ffb902a48207de3ed8"><enum>(1)</enum><text>congratulates the Los Angeles Dodgers for winning the 2024 Major League Baseball World Series;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id7195a72cce8045b2a7e9b0af6a0262a3"><enum>(2)</enum><text>recognizes the achievements and contributions of the entire Los Angeles Dodgers organization, including the players, coaches, management, and support staff in bringing the Commissioner's Trophy to Los Angeles; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id6453bd687a16448eaf4e309d1fd16799"><enum>(3)</enum><text>respectfully directs the Secretary of the Senate to transmit an enrolled copy of this resolution to—</text><subparagraph id="id0ac1699445df40c1ab6118780d07eaaa"><enum>(A)</enum><text>the chairman and controlling owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Mark Walter;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="idd4a23e0422ca41f78fd3659f5967fc0b"><enum>(B)</enum><text>the president of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Stan Kasten; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id80a971c257724993b9a5f8d4a9b32c04"><enum>(C)</enum><text>the manager of the 2024 Los Angeles Dodgers, Dave Roberts. </text></subparagraph></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
