RES. 790</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20240731">July 31, 2024</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S341">Mr. Blumenthal</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S364">Mr. Murphy</cosponsor>) submitted the following resolution; which was considered and agreed to</action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Commending and congratulating the University of Connecticut men’s basketball team for winning the 2024 National Collegiate Athletic Association Men’s Basketball Championship. </official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas, on Monday, April 8, 2024, the University of Connecticut’s men’s basketball team (referred to in this preamble as the <quote>UConn Huskies</quote>) won the 2024 National Collegiate Athletic Association (referred to in this preamble as the <term>NCAA</term>) Men’s Basketball Championship with a 75–60 win over the Purdue University Boilermakers;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas this is the UConn Huskies’ sixth national championship, continuing the team’s undefeated streak in national championship games;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas this is the UConn Huskies’ second consecutive national championship, becoming only the eighth NCAA Division I men’s basketball team to accomplish this feat;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the UConn Huskies earned all 6 national titles since 1999, a feat that no other college team has surpassed during that time;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Tristen Newton was named the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA tournament, averaging 14.5 points per game;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the UConn Huskies won every NCAA tournament game by 14 points or more for a second straight year and set the record this year for the largest margin of victory over its 6-game run with 140 combined points; and</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, because the University of Connecticut is also home to the most successful NCAA Division I women’s basketball program, having won a record 11 national championships and appearing in their twenty-third Final Four this year, Storrs, Connecticut, is the Basketball Capital of the World: Now, therefore, be it</text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body><section id="S1" display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section"><text>That the Senate—</text><paragraph id="id0d6f83d9cb8447c78a5d642cc846423e"><enum>(1)</enum><text>commends the University of Connecticut men’s basketball team for winning the 2024 National Collegiate Athletic Association Men’s Basketball Championship;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id655ef392386041059eb096f3edebdf10"><enum>(2)</enum><text>congratulates the fans, students, and faculty of the University of Connecticut; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id47d7cb518f174d038b70bf85a89c0dd3"><enum>(3)</enum><text>respectfully requests that the Secretary of the Senate transmit an enrolled copy of this resolution to—</text><subparagraph id="id31258f23bb364cfbadb84bf5094e3ce8"><enum>(A)</enum><text>the President of the University of Connecticut, Radenka Maric; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="idc7df6c4a757d4d9c8d91a6787a2d0e26"><enum>(B)</enum><text>the Head Coach of the University of Connecticut men’s basketball team, Dan Hurley. </text></subparagraph></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
