RES. 785</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20240731">July 31, 2024</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S404">Mr. Scott of Florida</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S350">Mr. Rubio</cosponsor>) submitted the following resolution; which was considered and agreed to</action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Commending and congratulating the Florida Panthers on winning the 2024 Stanley Cup Final.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas, on June 24, 2024, the Florida Panthers (referred to in this preamble as the <quote>Panthers</quote>) won the 2024 National Hockey League (referred to in this preamble as the <quote>NHL</quote>) Stanley Cup Final;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the 2024 NHL Stanley Cup Final is the first Stanley Cup Final won by the Panthers in the 30-year history of the Panthers franchise;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, on the way to winning the 2024 Stanley Cup Final, the Panthers defeated—</text><paragraph id="ide5a7bb6bec3648f19b8d8b306c88c87d"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in the first round of the playoffs, the Tampa Bay Lightning;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id066b180d426e4e70824cd8a6a1ddbfb5"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in the second round of the playoffs, the Boston Bruins;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idbb8cd51f1e7e42f382c27e9310d677e2"><enum>(3)</enum><text>in the Eastern Conference Finals to win the Prince of Wales Trophy, the New York Rangers; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idf957c781f13743c7b21a0dfae053abf0"><enum>(4)</enum><text>in the Stanley Cup Final, the Edmonton Oilers;</text></paragraph></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, during the 2023–2024 NHL Season, the Panthers—</text><paragraph id="ida6cb1ca96514478e86a3f506d5fc052f"><enum>(1)</enum><text>won 52 games during the regular season and scored 268 goals; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id818fd3e568df4bc7adefc061c8e5dadf"><enum>(2)</enum><text>had 2 players, Sam Reinhart (forward) and Sergei Bobrovsky (goaltender), represent the Panthers as All-Stars at the 2024 NHL All-Star Game in Toronto, Canada;</text></paragraph></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Aleksander Barkov of the Panthers won the Selke Trophy and was recognized as the best defensive forward in the NHL for the second time in his career;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the entire Panthers roster contributed to the 2024 Stanley Cup Final victory; </text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas supporting the Panthers players was a team of coaches and support staff committed to enriching the South Florida community on and off the ice; and</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the Panthers represent their loyal fans, the South Florida community, and the entire State of Florida with a commitment to excellence: Now, therefore, be it</text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body><section id="S1" display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section"><text>That the Senate—</text><paragraph id="id51710b252e244cb2bf92cb17121616fb"><enum>(1)</enum><text>congratulates—</text><subparagraph id="idADE847F50E3F4BBB998A6F4AD3638C7B"><enum>(A)</enum><text>the Florida Panthers for winning the 2024 National Hockey League Stanley Cup Final; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id922DB4A3218D4D6AAAAFA76CE01841C2"><enum>(B)</enum><text>the loyal fan base of the Florida Panthers for their support throughout the 2023–2024 season; and</text></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="id93f3a029c890470290ad9d57a6e18a48"><enum>(2)</enum><text>respectfully requests that the Secretary of the Senate transmit an enrolled copy of this resolution to members of the Florida Panthers ownership, management, and coaching staff, including—</text><subparagraph id="id9b2b0a2033f4470d883d5d3f88b22afb"><enum>(A)</enum><text>the chairman, owner, and governor of the Florida Panthers, Vincent Viola, and his family;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id7112fd35346c4613beb57b9e48784cd0"><enum>(B)</enum><text>the president and CEO of the Florida Panthers, Matthew Caldwell; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="idca57bbb05e49474db2e58d7e97f2ae7b"><enum>(C)</enum><text>the president of hockey operations and general manager of the Florida Panthers, Bill Zito, and the head coach of the Florida Panthers, Paul Maurice.</text></subparagraph></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
