RES. 519</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date>January 11, 2024</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S303">Mr. Thune</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S381">Mr. Rounds</cosponsor>) submitted the following resolution; which was considered and agreed to</action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Congratulating the South Dakota State University Jackrabbits on winning the 2024 National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Football Championship Subdivision title.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas, on January 7, 2024, the South Dakota State University (referred to in this preamble as “SDSU”) Jackrabbits defeated the University of Montana Grizzlies by a score of 23-3 in the 2024 National Collegiate Athletic Association (referred to in this preamble as the “NCAA”) Division I Football Championship Subdivision (referred to in this preamble as the “FCS”) championship game in Frisco, Texas;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the SDSU Jackrabbits football program, for the second consecutive year, have won the national championship;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the SDSU Jackrabbits finished the 2023–2024 season undefeated with an overall record of 15 wins and 0 losses, with 8 wins and 0 losses in the Missouri Valley Football Conference, and earned the #1 seed in the FCS playoffs;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the SDSU Jackrabbits have qualified for the FCS playoffs in each of the past 12 seasons;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, during the 2023–2024 season, the SDSU Jackrabbits—</text><paragraph id="id3df78a8573a24a9994109912346dd931"><enum>(1)</enum><text>averaged 37.33 points and 449.9 yards per game; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="iddea05424966c4e8aa74b1875dde956d9"><enum>(2)</enum><text>allowed only 9.27 points and 257.2 yards per game on average;</text></paragraph></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the Head Coach Jimmy Rogers was introduced as the 21<superscript>st</superscript> head football coach for SDSU on January 20, 2023;</text></whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas Coach Rogers was awarded the Stats Perform 2023 Eddie Robinson Award, given to the FCS coach of the year; and</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas President Barry Dunn and Athletic Director Justin Sell have cultivated a standard of excellence within SDSU athletics and guided the athletic programs at SDSU to national prominence: Now, therefore, be it</text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body><section id="S1" display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section"><text>That the Senate— </text><paragraph id="id5502e806e4f3422598f4f108105614c5"><enum>(1)</enum><text>congratulates and honors the South Dakota State University football team on a successful season and for winning the 2024 National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Football Championship Subdivision title;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id7ec755c4d2f04c969ee29402e48c7500"><enum>(2)</enum><text>recognizes the hard work, dedication, determination, and commitment of the South Dakota State University football players, coaches, and staff; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id5c9a08326d53436e9de2f1d23cc7dc4e"><enum>(3)</enum><text>respectfully requests that the Secretary of the Senate transmit an enrolled copy of this resolution to—</text><subparagraph id="id88c37b18507946da9cdbb9d42eff8a0b"><enum>(A)</enum><text>the President of South Dakota State University, Barry Dunn;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id84a8932c49914bf4bcc943db3dc7c5e7"><enum>(B)</enum><text>the Athletic Director of South Dakota State University, Justin Sell; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id4f57f3dd0f8b42d99bf66d710489bed4"><enum>(C)</enum><text>the Head Coach of the South Dakota State University Jackrabbits football team, Jimmy Rogers. </text></subparagraph></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
