RES. 498</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20231213">December 13, 2023</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S373">Mr. Cassidy</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S389">Mr. Kennedy</cosponsor>) submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSCM00" added-display-style="italic" deleted-display-style="strikethrough">Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Congratulating Jayden Daniels for winning the 2023 Heisman Memorial Trophy.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas, on Saturday, December 9, 2023, Louisiana State University (referred to in this preamble as <quote>LSU</quote>) quarterback Jayden Daniels was awarded the 89th annual Heisman Memorial Trophy for being the most outstanding collegiate football player in the United States;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Daniels led the 2023 LSU football team to a regular season record of 9 wins and 3 losses;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Daniels was assisted by the leadership of the LSU football coaching staff, including head coach Brian Kelly, offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock, quarterbacks coach Joe Sloan, and others;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, notwithstanding a bowl game, the 2023–2024 collegiate football season stats of Daniels are—</text><paragraph id="id1d28cc69c2474ff7b15bdba6eb4dda7a"><enum>(1)</enum><text>3,812 passing yards;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id6b2eadbc7e334773acadf3cb5aae4f3c"><enum>(2)</enum><text>1,134 rushing yards; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id2d091a5ff3d64200ab96bcd6b82948da"><enum>(3)</enum><text>50 touchdowns;</text></paragraph></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Daniels is the only player in Football Bowl Subdivision (referred to in this preamble as <quote>FBS</quote>) history to achieve career totals over 12,000 passing yards and 3,000 rushing yards;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Daniels is the only player in FBS history to rush for 200 yards and pass for 350 yards in a single game;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Daniels is 1 of 2 players in LSU history to have 3 games with 500 yards of total offense in a season;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Daniels is 1 of 2 players in Southeastern Conference history to pass for 3,500 yards and rush for 1,000 yards in a season;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Daniels is 1 of 5 players in Southeastern Conference history to be responsible for at least 50 touchdowns in a season, joining Joe Burrow, Tim Tebow, Cam Newton, and Bryce Young;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Daniels was born on December 18, 2000, in San Bernardino, California, and was a 4-star recruit to Arizona State University out of Cajon High School; and</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Jayden Daniels has made the entire State of Louisiana proud: Now, therefore, be it</text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body><section id="S1" display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section"><text>That the Senate—</text><paragraph id="id50bbc6709175427d857afe7681f7aa65"><enum>(1)</enum><text>congratulates Jayden Daniels as the recipient of the 2023 Heisman Memorial Trophy;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id02f8a9a265404c3e96dc489779f69eef"><enum>(2)</enum><text>recognizes the many achievements of Jayden Daniels, his fellow players, the coaches, and the staff of the Louisiana State University football team;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id3d67ce871f9e435f9511332caeb15374"><enum>(3)</enum><text>recognizes the fans and the entire State of Louisiana for their dedication and support; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id3a8896ea321444f3bf7a22771e30a442"><enum>(4)</enum><text>respectfully requests that the Secretary of the Senate transmit an enrolled copy of this resolution to—</text><subparagraph id="id8501ba1019544e3388381ae33174145c"><enum>(A)</enum><text>Jayden Daniels;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="idebaba1519ee24f199a736457f6aa5866"><enum>(B)</enum><text>the head coach of the Louisiana State University football team, Brian Kelly; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id8a48cdcd7c0442f2a162f320a8ce2ab0"><enum>(C)</enum><text>the president of Louisiana State University, William F. Tate IV. </text></subparagraph></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
