RES. 457</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date>November 8, 2023</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S399">Mr. Hawley</sponsor> submitted the following resolution; which was considered and agreed to</action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Honoring the distinguished service of Captain Samuel Farmer of the United States Marine Corps and the Marines and sailors of 1st Platoon, Company G, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas Captain Samuel Farmer, from the State of Missouri, a dedicated and courageous officer of the United States Marine Corps, faithfully served the United States for more than 4 years;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Captain Samuel Farmer displayed an unwavering devotion to duty throughout his military career;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas then-First Lieutenant Samuel Farmer demonstrated outstanding bravery and selflessness while commanding the Marines and sailors of 1st Platoon, Company G, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment during Operation Allies Refuge in Afghanistan;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas then-First Lieutenant Samuel Farmer led the Marines and sailors under his command in assisting and protecting civilians under deteriorating conditions at Abbey Gate during the Kabul airlift;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the Marines and sailors of 1st Platoon, Company G, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, in acts of noble humanitarianism, provided their own food and water to women and children attempting to flee Kabul;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the Marines and sailors of 1st Platoon, Company G, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment displayed heroism in combat with the enemy at Abbey Gate, including the critically wounded Marines who refused treatment in order to save fallen comrades;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas 9 members of 1st Platoon, Company G, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment were killed in action and 14 members were wounded at Abbey Gate;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas then-First Lieutenant Samuel Farmer and the Marines and sailors of 1st Platoon, Company G, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment reflected great credit upon themselves and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service; and </text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Captain Samuel Farmer honorably completed his service in the United States Marine Corps on October 30, 2023: Now, therefore, be it</text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body><section id="S1" display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section"><text>That the Senate—</text><paragraph id="id959b14b0630d4e6b8beda4aa5f5da76a"><enum>(1)</enum><text>extends its deepest gratitude to Captain Samuel Farmer for his dedicated service to the United States;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id7393514bc6e748e1b89c33b406c592d9"><enum>(2)</enum><text>recognizes the sacrifices that Captain Samuel Farmer and the Marines and sailors of 1st Platoon, Company G, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment made for the United States;</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id3986f2bc78604706a9a82ac4a71c3c15"><enum>(3)</enum><text>commends the heroism shown by Captain Samuel Farmer and the Marines and sailors under his command in the line of duty; and</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id324acf9a75fe4366bac8070e04ba1d51"><enum>(4)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">honors Captain Samuel Farmer and the Marines and sailors of 1st Platoon, Company G, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment for their devotion to duty and decisive leadership in the face of enemy action at Abbey Gate in Kabul, Afghanistan.</text></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
