RES. 387</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20230929" legis-day="20230922">September 29 (legislative day, September 22), 2023</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S354">Ms. Baldwin</sponsor> (for herself, <cosponsor name-id="S252">Ms. Collins</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="S363">Mr. King</cosponsor>) submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Designating October 12, 2023, as <quote>National Loggers Day</quote>.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas the logging industry has served as an economic driver and cultural tradition in the United States for centuries;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the logging industry creates rural jobs and provides revenue for local and State governments and National forests;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas loggers provide renewable material for products used by people in the United States every day;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas loggers are the first link in the $300,000,000,000 domestic forest products supply chain;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas loggers are the means by which healthy forest management plans are accomplished;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas logging provides for healthy forests, which—</text><paragraph id="id7F2620AADAE845AFAD49E1505B416FC1"><enum>(1)</enum><text>maintain vital animal habitats;</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="ide3b2a0186fd14bbf9ed4bb40fa5e8a56"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">protect watersheds;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id0314A558AF8045A1B3261F0B6DF3B8CF"><enum>(3)</enum><text>sequester carbon;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idA6D7BADA0684431EAF49AD2F5833CB08"><enum>(4)</enum><text>provide public recreational opportunities; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idEFAF4C4121AB48E68BB8994A61C86573"><enum>(5)</enum><text>reduce loss of life and property from wildfires; and</text></paragraph></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas logging provides for healthy forests through regeneration, including by planting 2,500,000,000 trees annually: Now, therefore, be it</text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body id="HB456BCF275B3457492DD16D743667CDD"><section display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section" id="S1"><text>That the Senate—</text><paragraph id="id6b268d8680804fe8ab8db48dc16ecbdc"><enum>(1)</enum><text>designates October 12, 2023, as <quote>National Loggers Day</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id99e94297151b4443b72e54e16dd07e91"><enum>(2)</enum><text>encourages the President to officially designate October 12th as <quote>National Loggers Day</quote>. </text></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
