RES. 335</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20230912">September 12, 2023</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S362">Mr. Kaine</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S383">Mr. Sullivan</cosponsor>) submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Designating September 23, 2023, through October 1, 2023, as <quote>Blue Star Welcome Week</quote>.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas Blue Star Families seeks to empower military families by connecting them with their neighbors, individuals, and organizations to create vibrant communities of mutual support;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Blue Star Families annually designates the week beginning the second to last Saturday in September and concluding 8 days thereafter as <quote>Blue Star Welcome Week</quote>;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, during Blue Star Welcome Week, the Senate recognizes the 600,000 active duty and transitioning military families who move to new communities each year during permanent change of station moves, nearly half of which occur during the summer;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas only 33 percent of military family respondents to the 2022 Military Family Lifestyle Survey conducted by Blue Star Families reported that they feel a sense of belonging to their local civilian community; and</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas a sense of belonging is essential to the well-being and readiness of military families: Now, therefore, be it</text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body><section id="S1" display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section"><text>That the Senate—</text><paragraph id="id00ca242211154a54b153e4026c104cc8"><enum>(1)</enum><text>designates September 23, 2023, through October 1, 2023, as <quote>Blue Star Welcome Week</quote>;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id3ac97bb6f4e14582a8be637a91abdcc1"><enum>(2)</enum><text>expresses gratitude for the sacrifices made by service members, transitioning veterans, and their families;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="ide700aa2c6b54406386a0bdcecf66323b"><enum>(3)</enum><text>commits to ensuring that military-connected families feel a strong sense of belonging to their local civilian communities; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idb123feec62fa426da8ccd2d70bd26175"><enum>(4)</enum><text>encourages civilians across the United States to welcome military-connected families into their communities. </text></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
