RES. 288</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20230711">July 11, 2023</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S407">Mr. Hagerty</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S396">Mrs. Blackburn</cosponsor>) submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Observing the 150th anniversary of Vanderbilt University.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas Vanderbilt University was founded in 1873 to create opportunities, promote community engagement, and inspire future generations of scholars;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Vanderbilt University, forged in Tennessee spirit, has grown from a regional university to one of the premier research institutions in the United States;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Vanderbilt University has, since its inception, provided distinguished educational opportunities to tens of thousands of undergraduate, graduate, and professional students from across the United States and around the world;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the partnerships Vanderbilt University developed with stakeholders foster the fulfillment of human potential by supporting organizations and working to bring the people and resources of Vanderbilt University together in service of others;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the world-renowned researchers of Vanderbilt University are using revolutionary innovation to address the most urgent and complex problems of society;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, with over 154,000 active alumni and 6 Nobel Laureates, Vanderbilt University graduates throughout the world lead in their respective fields and continue to push the limits of scientific discovery; </text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Vanderbilt University student-athletes set new benchmarks for excellence both on and off the field; and</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Vanderbilt University is proud of, but not satisfied with, its accomplishments of the past 150 years and aims to grow to become the Great University of the 21st century: Now, therefore, be it</text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body><section id="S1" display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section"><text>That the Senate—</text><paragraph id="id2e443d159000427eabf728f16bd82784"><enum>(1)</enum><text>honors and congratulates Vanderbilt University on the occasion of its 150th anniversary;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id2e58685657fb46b8a8c4c0eca8265cf4"><enum>(2)</enum><text>commends Vanderbilt University for its remarkable history of seminal research and educating generations of leaders, scientists, teachers, nurses, doctors, and engineers; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id5db8ec503bb946d9817e0e7b590efc32"><enum>(3)</enum><text>respectfully requests that the Secretary of the Senate transmit an enrolled copy of this resolution to—</text><subparagraph id="id205e35ed508d41ab88516191e6d08988"><enum>(A)</enum><text>the Chancellor of Vanderbilt University, Daniel Diermeier; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="ide7ac02a8c0fa4382beedc9cfd29ccd33"><enum>(B)</enum><text>the Chair of the Board of Trust, Bruce R. Evans. </text></subparagraph></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
