RES. 238</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20230606">June 6, 2023</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S314">Mr. Tester</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S347">Mr. Moran</cosponsor>) submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSHR00">Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions</committee-name></action-desc></action><action><action-date date="20230919">September 19, 2023</action-date><action-desc>Committee discharged; considered and agreed to with an amended preamble</action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Expressing support for recognizing September 20 as National Service Dog Day.</official-title></form><preamble commented="no"><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas service dogs assist individuals with a wide range of challenges, </text></whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas service dogs are able to support veterans struggling after war;</text></whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas service dogs have assisted individuals in the United States since 1929;</text></whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas evidence-based research has shown that service dogs provide numerous health and fitness benefits;</text></whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas tens of thousands of service dogs are estimated to be working in the United States today; and</text></whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas National Service Dog Day is an appropriate tribute to service dogs and the organizations that offer service dogs free of charge to United States veterans and individuals with disabilities: Now, therefore, be it</text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body style="OLC" display-resolving-clause="yes-display-resolving-clause"><section id="S1" display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section" commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">That the Senate—</text><paragraph id="id6ef6919576764b798ec39f76fd5376fb" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">supports recognizing September 20 as National Service Dog Day;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id4f7a2881d3c74beaa873904828989a41" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">encourages all individuals in the United States to learn about the history of service dogs and the unique, positive impact service dogs have on individuals with disabilities; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="ida2f6a9153dc34ae39da5ee6dc0c2e5b1" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(3)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">requests that the President issue a proclamation calling on the people of the United States to conduct appropriate ceremonies, activities, and programs to demonstrate support for organizations that train and pair service dogs with disabled individuals in the United States.</text></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
