RES. 189</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20230502">May 2, 2023</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S341">Mr. Blumenthal</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S364">Mr. Murphy</cosponsor>) submitted the following resolution; which was considered and agreed to</action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Commending and congratulating the Quinnipiac University men’s hockey team for winning the 2023 National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Men’s Hockey National Championship.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas, on Saturday, April 8, 2023, the Quinnipiac University men’s hockey team (referred to in this preamble as the <quote>Quinnipiac Bobcats</quote>) won the 2023 National Collegiate Athletic Association (referred to in this preamble as <quote>NCAA</quote>) Men’s Hockey Championship with a 3–2 win over the Minnesota Golden Gophers, at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the 2023 national championship is the first national championship for the Quinnipiac Bobcats;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the Quinnipiac Bobcats have demonstrated remarkably consistent success in the past decade, and have made the NCAA Championship tournament in 8 of the last 10 seasons;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Jacob Quillan was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2023 NCAA Championship tournament, finishing the NCAA Championship tournament with 5 goals and setting a new Quinnipiac University record for most goals scored in a single tournament;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Rand Pecknold, the head coach of the Quinnipiac Bobcats, has led the team for 29 years and transformed the Quinnipiac Bobcats from a Division II program to a National Division I powerhouse; and</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the National Championship was played in front of 20,000 people in Tampa, Florida, and was the most watched <quote>Frozen Four Final</quote> game in more than 10 years: Now, therefore, be it</text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body><section id="S1" display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section"><text>That the Senate—</text><paragraph id="idcc199959d5b94999a5c5ee5966422a4e"><enum>(1)</enum><text>commends the Quinnipiac University men’s hockey team for winning the 2023 National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Men’s Hockey Championship;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id49bd6fb867af41c79a8ea575451fc8b7"><enum>(2)</enum><text>congratulates the fans, students, and faculty of Quinnipiac University; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id65128039b0c84029af63558af77c68a2"><enum>(3)</enum><text>respectfully requests that the Secretary of the Senate transmits an enrolled copy of this resolution to—</text><subparagraph id="id118adbad05f54e2faf673a636d927d1f"><enum>(A)</enum><text>the President of Quinnipiac University, Dr. Judy Olian; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id56cf7d3223e14005bc22e59c1160590f"><enum>(B)</enum><text>the head coach of the Quinnipiac University men’s hockey team, Rand Pecknold. </text></subparagraph></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
