which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSCM00">Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Congratulating the Louisiana State University Fighting Tigers women’s basketball team for winning the 2023 National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Women’s Basketball Tournament Championship.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas, on Sunday, April 2, 2023, the Louisiana State University (referred to in this preamble as <quote>LSU</quote>) Fighting Tigers women’s basketball team won the 2023 National Collegiate Athletic Association (referred to in this preamble as <quote>NCAA</quote>) National Championship, defeating the University of Iowa Hawkeyes by a score of 102 to 85;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the LSU Fighting Tigers won their first NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball National Championship in LSU history; </text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas during the NCAA Championship game—</text><paragraph id="idd4c4d517bc974063912705917a33fec7"><enum>(1)</enum><text>the LSU Fighting Tigers scored 102 points, becoming the first team to score more than 100 points in a NCAA Division I women’s college basketball championship game;</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idc2f84d0beb29420c920edf12a80ec245"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Jasmine Carson scored 21 points in the first 20 minutes to open up a 17-point lead;</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id504a484ab54042d4b7cd114ca88072c6"><enum>(3)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Alexis Morris, the only starter for the LSU Fighting Tigers returning from the 2021–2022 season, scored 21 points and a game-high 9 assists; and</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id4b495b8483504e9099a209a2f9db0f9d"><enum>(4)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">LaDazhia Williams scored 20 points, along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals;</text></paragraph></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas head coach Kim Mulkey became the third coach with 4 or more national championships in NCAA Division I women’s college basketball history, and the first to win a championship as a head coach of multiple programs;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the LSU Fighting Tigers finished the season with 34 wins and only 2 losses, including 15 wins and 1 loss in the Southeastern Conference (referred to in this preamble as <quote>SEC</quote>);</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas 4 LSU Fighting Tigers players earned All-SEC Season Awards, awarded only to the premier players in the SEC, including—</text><paragraph id="idd6c4735ce7804fcdbfa1f7a59c3d6ec2"><enum>(1)</enum><text>Angel Reese, who earned First Team All-SEC and SEC All-Defensive Team honors;</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idd31b728be7924292be4de8d007fa288b"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Alexis Morris, who earned First Team All-SEC honors; </text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id35b682e16ed84441bb949d00c07f2550"><enum>(3)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Flau’Jae Johnson, who earned SEC All-Freshman Team honors; and </text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idd13097533c8247e681613e403f6abb8d"><enum>(4)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Sa’Myah Smith, who earned SEC All-Freshman Team honors;</text></paragraph></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Angel Reese was named most outstanding player of the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Tournament Final Four;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Angel Reese set an NCAA record for most double-doubles in a single season, with 34;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Flau’Jae Johnson was named SEC Freshman of the Year, becoming the fourth in school history to achieve that recognition;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the LSU Fighting Tigers demonstrated incredible teamwork and tenacity, with 9 freshman or transfer players playing in their first season for the LSU Fighting Tigers;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the LSU Fighting Tigers showed incredible sportsmanship and teamwork throughout the entire season; and</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the LSU Fighting Tigers have made the entire State of Louisiana proud: Now, therefore, be it </text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body><section id="S1" display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section"><text>That the Senate—</text><paragraph id="idd8918ae847fb46dabb6fc7b83eded486"><enum>(1)</enum><text>congratulates the Louisiana State University Fighting Tigers for winning the 2023 National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Women’s Basketball Tournament Championship;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id37c64b66f4d54cb89bde17620ff48589"><enum>(2)</enum><text>recognizes the many achievements of the coaches, players, and staff of the Louisiana State University women’s basketball team;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id498acfd87fd543b3b3bddebfca975439"><enum>(3)</enum><text>recognizes the fans and the entire State of Louisiana for their dedication and support; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id4db72418777845c78785f8c9507c5a0d"><enum>(4)</enum><text>respectfully requests that the Secretary of the Senate transmit an enrolled copy of this resolution to—</text><subparagraph id="idca8e22aa843440b6909fb56161ac1a8c"><enum>(A)</enum><text>the head coach of the Louisiana State University women’s basketball team, Kim Mulkey;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id89ea4d1e06d54bb380446d93bb5f1692"><enum>(B)</enum><text>the associate head coach, Bob Starkey;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="idd71352d2b18547068d195e83b60c2f8f"><enum>(C)</enum><text>assistant coach, Daphne Mitchell;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id4a5309af26d8448aa1f28a02f3391ced"><enum>(D)</enum><text>assistant coach, Gary Redus II;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id5b6331f3039e4898b7421db93b08880a"><enum>(E)</enum><text>the president of Louisiana State University, William F.
