RES. 16</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20230126">January 26, 2023</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S414">Mr. Ossoff</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S415">Mr. Warnock</cosponsor>) submitted the following resolution; which was considered and agreed to</action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Congratulating the University of Georgia Bulldogs football team for winning the 2023 National Collegiate Athletic Association College Football National Championship.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas, on January 9, 2023, the University of Georgia posted an impressive, undefeated record of 15–0 and won the 2023 National Collegiate Athletic Association College Football National Championship, defeating the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs by a score of 65–7 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas this victory marks the University of Georgia Bulldogs' second college football national championship in 2 years, and fourth in program history, making the Bulldogs the first team in the playoff era to repeat national titles;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas this historic victory follows a Southeastern Conference Championship and a Peach Bowl playoff victory;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the 2022–2023 University of Georgia Bulldogs offense averaged an impressive 494.9 yards and 39 points per game, with the defense allowing only 304.6 yards and 14.8 points per game through 14 games, and the Bulldogs allowed only 188 yards and 7 points, while posting 589 yards of offense and 65 points in the championship game;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Kirby Smart posts his second national championship victory in his seventh year as Head Coach of the University of Georgia Bulldogs football team and his third appearance in the national championship game; and</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, with this remarkable season, Coach Smart extends his impressive record to 72 wins and 15 losses in his 7 years as Head Coach of the University of Georgia Bulldogs football team and cements his legacy in Georgia football forever: Now, therefore, be it</text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body style="traditional" id="H109530A22E0D46B2BD99EC669EC2ED2C"><section display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section" id="H740D60FF992041089B5C6315122126F9"><enum/><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">That the Senate—</text><paragraph id="H1FEFF43C43254337B8DFE72E089B8ECA"><enum>(1)</enum><text>congratulates the University of Georgia Bulldogs football team for an incredible season and for winning the 2023 National Collegiate Athletic Association College Football National Championship;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HC950958FF2CC4406B35885A6CFA00568"><enum>(2)</enum><text>recognizes the achievements of all players, coaches, and staff who made a championship possible; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H79AEE65D9BBB4F91A9D4B019707E964E"><enum>(3)</enum><text>respectfully requests that the Secretary of the Senate transmit an enrolled copy of this resolution to— </text><subparagraph id="HE62CD197A87443008355B93B387DAB8E"><enum>(A)</enum><text>the President of the University of Georgia, Jere Morehead;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="H9567BAD38C9346C49C4329D3A4F60E89"><enum>(B)</enum><text>the Athletic Director of the University of Georgia, Josh Brooks; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="HF701521BD2704589BC96A5612EA6BDBD"><enum>(C)</enum><text>the Head Coach of the University of Georgia Bulldogs football team, Kirby Smart.</text></subparagraph></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
