<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>118th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 97</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20230126">January 26, 2023</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S311">Ms. Klobuchar</sponsor> (for herself and <cosponsor name-id="S357">Mrs. Fischer</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSRA00">Committee on Rules and Administration</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To establish procedures for the removal of the Architect of the Capitol.</official-title></form><legis-body display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause"><section section-type="section-one" id="ideffe32b7f0c9401fb15c5ff918517347"><enum>1.</enum><header>Removal of the Architect of the Capitol</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 319 of the Legislative Branch Appropriations Act, 1990 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/2/1801">2 U.S.C. 1801</external-xref>) is amended—</text><paragraph id="id26127C0519BF4D48B4AE2C984067B589"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by redesignating subsection (b) as subsection (c); and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id9824F57584A74363A538AC0377A705E3"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by inserting after subsection (a) the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id3D77C045F6BE466781BFA950FA8E80B7"><subsection id="idFE8B766B9E7C423E86204C269D9B788D"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Removal</header><text>The Architect of the Capitol may be removed at any time by—</text><paragraph id="id254f953869cd47ab90c101a5995426a0"><enum>(1)</enum><text>impeachment; or</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id018359aebe0d42f2ab35b18b4b1d40b0"><enum>(2)</enum><text>joint resolution of Congress, only for—</text><subparagraph id="id76f8818ff1da4bea96ef3071aadcbd0b"><enum>(A)</enum><text>permanent disability;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id37046318f45d42f28094cf0ad961ff54"><enum>(B)</enum><text>inefficiency;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="ide1999646a7f24562a6c375a2480fe335"><enum>(C)</enum><text>neglect of duty;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id0bb8300843374dd8a1f9f141c06e3383"><enum>(D)</enum><text>malfeasance; or</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id1a11310ffcc842a6b170157bd63d3213"><enum>(E)</enum><text>a felony or conduct involving moral turpitude.</text></subparagraph></paragraph></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></section></legis-body></bill>
