<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>118th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 713</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20230308">March 8, 2023</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S374">Mr. Cotton</sponsor> introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To amend section 3624 of title 18, United States Code, to require carjackers to serve their prison sentences. </official-title></form><legis-body><section id="S1" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>No Early Release for Carjackers Act of 2023</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="idda3cd3ff2a364a159d35c0b8aa5c582f"><enum>2.</enum><header>Early release exceptions</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 3624(b)(1) of title 18, United States Code, is amended—</text><paragraph id="ida0067118ebb349449f47047c4055299a"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by striking <quote>year</quote> and inserting <quote>year,</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idb57c347326c34222b15b451d09944503"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by adding at the end the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id6c46a06b9ed848a7bbd314798d4632c2"><paragraph id="id72e043759708416f8b6eefe8924d38fa"><enum>(5)</enum><text>A prisoner may not receive credit toward service of the prisoner’s sentence for a crime under section 2119, relating to taking a motor vehicle (commonly referred to as <quote>carjacking</quote>).</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></section><section id="idde9282552ebf4a4aa90c8bc33886d30e"><enum>3.</enum><header>Applicability</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act and the amendments made by this Act shall apply with respect to each prisoner in the custody of the Bureau of Prisons on or after the date of enactment of this Act. </text></section></legis-body></bill>
