<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>118th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 539</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20230228">February 28, 2023</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S383">Mr. Sullivan</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S361">Ms. Hirono</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSBK00">Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To amend the Federal Credit Union Act to exclude extensions of credit made to veterans from the definition of a member business loan.</official-title></form><legis-body style="OLC" display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause" id="H07D6255EF31B4C879D3731FCB844BA59"><section section-type="section-one" id="id28A44709465C4A3F84802420F1051750"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Veterans Member Business Loan Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section section-type="subsequent-section" id="H5E2C77723D1C432C81FE26AC6C389266"><enum>2.</enum><header>Member business loan definition</header><subsection id="H3EF8CF675A6F404394F89E79E1A8D3CB"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text>Section 107A(c) of the Federal Credit Union Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/12/1757a">12 U.S.C. 1757a(c)</external-xref>) is amended—</text><paragraph id="H25E6BCD56860451A977904094C75F968"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in paragraph (1)(B)—</text><subparagraph id="H5AF89FD3356A40C19A410BB3371B189C"><enum>(A)</enum><text>in clause (iv), by striking <quote>or</quote> at the end;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="H7DDFB5957EF6488899FC89E0A2032BD0"><enum>(B)</enum><text>in clause (v), by striking the period at the end and inserting <quote>; or</quote>; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="H19A1EBA68B764FC992262F899DD21F50"><enum>(C)</enum><text>by adding at the end the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HF37F9D072B6E4F5DBC89BD7E5B040658"><clause id="H2C3FD7EA18AD4EA28BBF8A7893D2FF88"><enum>(vi)</enum><text>made to a veteran;</text></clause><after-quoted-block>;</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="H6AF2DABC2F75449BB9A3B1C572E8FB29"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in paragraph (2)(B)(ii), by striking <quote>and</quote> at the end;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H12B491F775A946AFB4384A880939B5C8"><enum>(3)</enum><text>in paragraph (3), by striking the period at the end and inserting <quote>; and</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HC0A40E7F8B994850B41455C858D82B9A"><enum>(4)</enum><text>by adding at the end the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H15B8D103E3484471931080D0B31FBC27"><paragraph id="HB4E7631162E94C77B5A7FD44C4140486"><enum>(4)</enum><text>the term <term>veteran</term> has the meaning given the term in section 101 of title 38, United States Code.</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H3AC9DDD2700D49EE80D01290663FCE2B"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text>The amendments made by subsection (a) shall take effect on the date that is 180 days after the date of enactment of this Act.</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
