and</text></clause><clause commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id56dd2f0426ce4413be561e424c398048"><enum>(iii)</enum><text>by adding at the end the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idBE95AE24D9A14DB6B69AA9034F553251"><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id0b6b7023491a4631952abbbbe61bb02d"><enum>(2)</enum><header>1,500 hour program</header><text>Except as provided in subsection (c) or section 149A(a)(1), an individual described in section 146(a) who successfully completes a required term of full-time national service described in section 139(b)(1)(B) in an approved national service position shall receive a national service educational award having a value equal to 88 percent of value of the national service educational award determined under paragraph (1).</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>; and</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></clause></subparagraph><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id26d37015297649b49c4315234f74850b"><enum>(B)</enum><text>in subsection (b), by striking <quote>subsection (a)</quote> and inserting <quote>subsection (a)(1)</quote>.</text></subparagraph></paragraph></subsection><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id88012d78b2b347e18ecfb177b44db0aa"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Season of service</header><text>The National and Community Service Act of 1990 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/12501">42 U.S.C. 12501 et seq.</external-xref>) is amended—</text><paragraph id="id54533988b0904ae2881beec60041f185"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in section 153(d) (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/12613">42 U.S.C. 12613(d)</external-xref>)—</text><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="ida437af362ee64cf5918ecb14f21b9f61"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by striking <quote>nine months</quote> and inserting <quote>eight weeks</quote>; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idc84f18a8a156477b9e0319e9e9fcaad9"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by striking <quote>such period</quote> and inserting <quote>year. A period of service performed by an individual in an originally agreed to term of service and service performed under any renewed agreement shall constitute a single term of service for purposes of subsections (b)(1) and (c) of section 146.</quote>; and</text></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="id4cd697d7e2e24bba8c33d96181267114"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in section 156(a) (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/12616">42 U.S.C. 12616(a)</external-xref>), by striking <quote>with between three and six weeks of</quote>.</text></paragraph></subsection></section><section id="idbf3a373e4e7e40289b8871bab2f441c3"><enum>102.</enum><header>National civilian community corps term extension authority</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 139(b)(4)(A) of the National and Community Service Act of 1990 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/12593">42 U.S.C. 12593(b)(4)(A)</external-xref>) is amended— </text><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id38678f45a0294823bbd35db156a4e80e"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by striking <quote>An individual</quote> and inserting the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id4AA2EF76C0CA491C839F3CE0DBA35431"><clause commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id183d9f242bb44d33a88a6ef71e9a1efe"><enum>(i)</enum><header>Disaster relief</header><text>An individual</text></clause><after-quoted-block>;</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="ida2b8a77f354644569c28de8b65aa603e"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by striking <quote>or section 153(d)</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idcc626693e9334944975af4e74807f861"><enum>(3)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by adding at the end the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id751156F187B64A51BA04E7040AB23CE7"><clause commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idb9997f1b1176486296448fb3021f27ae"><enum>(ii)</enum><header>Other programs</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">An individual in an approved national service position in a program under section 152(a) may, upon the approval of the Director of the National Civilian Community Corps, continue in a term of service for up to 180 days beyond the period otherwise specified in section 153(d) or 90 days beyond the period otherwise specified in section 154(c).</text></clause><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></section><section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" section-type="subsequent-section" id="idd8409c041dc646848cb81cf480207bc7"><enum>103.</enum><header>Increased age eligibility range for the national civilian community corps</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 153(b)(1) of the National and Community Service Act of 1990 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/12613">42 U.S.C. 12613(b)(1)</external-xref>) is amended by striking <quote>24</quote> and inserting <quote>26</quote>. </text></section><section id="id4063d284a216496e99b3455b31599a74"><enum>104.</enum><header>Timekeeping</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Not later than 180 days after the date of enactment of this Act, the Chief Executive Officer of the Corporation for National and Community Service and the Inspector General of the Corporation for National and Community Service shall each submit a report to Congress on—</text><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="ida5b8436f45a74d119d0d8e8ee81084a5"><enum>(1)</enum><text>the timekeeping practices of the Corporation regarding service in an approved national service position (as such term is defined in section 101 of the National and Community Service Act of 1990 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/12511">42 U.S.C. 12511</external-xref>));</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id82d3c494241b4baaa13f89ca38f876d6"><enum>(2)</enum><text>the feasibility and potential impact of requiring that records supporting the provision of any living allowance or other benefit provided for service in such an approved national service position meet the standards described in the portion of section 200.430 of title 2, Code of Federal Regulations, that relates to standards for documentation of personnel expenses (or any successor regulation) for charges to Federal awards for salaries and wages as if the living allowance or other benefit was such a salary or wage; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id16d95cb34b924001b164a089be2ace0f"><enum>(3)</enum><text>any recommendations on improving the timekeeping practices of the Corporation described in paragraph (1) to ensure the appropriate use of Federal funds.</text></paragraph></section><section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id415d1403add64c55b13343b1916dd87f"><enum>105.</enum><header>Administrative costs</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 121(d) of the National and Community Service Act of 1990 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/12571">42 U.S.C. 12571(d)</external-xref>) is amended—</text><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id63e9bd7878e9456b9377a5f38a1358da"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in the heading, by striking <quote><header-in-text level="subsection" style="OLC">Five</header-in-text></quote> and inserting <quote><header-in-text level="subsection" style="OLC">Ten</header-in-text></quote> ; and</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id59eeae90fa7e4d25bac9bd42fdd8a1b4"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in the matter preceding paragraph (1), by striking <quote>5</quote> and inserting <quote>10</quote>. </text></paragraph></section><section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" section-type="subsequent-section" id="id37882cf486b64b5586a05a08d28db04d"><enum>106.</enum><header>Spending flexibility</header><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id60993e45cb904c77a48ef6b7eca241eb"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Reinvestment of unobligated and expiring funds</header><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id9e1ba085d72a42c88f81aa00fd5ae87f"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 196 of the National and Community Service Act of 1990 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/12651g">42 U.S.C. 12651g</external-xref>) is amended by adding at the end the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id006BDB55F5DE4ECEAA3A62411D4C6700"><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id14896eaafb6146dd93a49f82e28cce3c"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Reinvestment of unobligated and expiring funds</header><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="ide2f2e5a6d9024fa2ba5be587f72f68df"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Establishment of fund</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">There is established in the Treasury of the United States a fund to be known as the <quote>Unobligated and Expiring Amounts Fund</quote>, referred to in this subsection as the <quote>Fund</quote>.</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id84beb933500040e7ae872afcda9a3f69"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Amounts in fund</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Any amounts appropriated for expenses of the Corporation to carry out the national service laws that are unobligated and would otherwise expire on September 30 of a fiscal year shall, on such September 30 of that fiscal year, be transferred to the Fund and remain available until expended.</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id692f68e541e546fca6bbf21535226b0c"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Use of fund</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Corporation may use amounts available in the Fund to—</text><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id3af036d8dd81449abae9eb3c97e9cd3e"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">administer the national service laws;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id86c83cbb65d24ddca18cc108c795630a"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">modernize technology used in the administration of the national service laws;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id6fccfbbb5ae54b7f96fb5581540df365"><enum>(C)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">provide the training and technical assistance described in section 199N; or</text></subparagraph><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id413b8260063c4c3f8560f0798bbee90b"><enum>(D)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">deposit amounts in the National Service Trust established under section 145(a).</text></subparagraph></paragraph></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id8d3c1630e18b443c9493fc61dce03bb0"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Conforming amendments</header><text>Section 145(a) of the National and Community Service Act of 1990 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/12601">42 U.S.C. 12601(a)</external-xref>) is amended—</text><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idcdc247594cf2472fa002d189f7323372"><enum>(A)</enum><text>in paragraph (3), by striking <quote>and</quote>;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id64c8784fdc734e139f7772941cd57923"><enum>(B)</enum><text>in paragraph (4), by striking the period and inserting <quote>; and</quote>; and </text></subparagraph><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id3b3fab8efcb945bb8515de48fa51e825"><enum>(C)</enum><text>by adding at the end the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idBBC5874857294C31A4D46889B0627D90"><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="ida5577c6b8fc346069d97b5dd422b9634"><enum>(5)</enum><text>any amounts deposited under section 196(d)(3)(D).</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subparagraph></paragraph></subsection><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idf917fc92592f465195a765e606b57cfd"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Expenditure of investment income in the National Service Trust</header><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id0a531ab9355040d8b1a7e6a3652aeb0b"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 145(c) of the National and Community Service Act of 1990 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/12601">42 U.S.C. 12601(c)</external-xref>) is amended—</text><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id0566a55e09af4ecba1456a598c149244"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by redesignating paragraphs (1) and (2) as subparagraphs (A) and (B), respectively, and indenting appropriately; </text></subparagraph><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id944628e4cd2942cabc901675bdbbef2c"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">in the matter preceding subparagraph (A) (as so redesignated)—</text><clause commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id96fd4ed7d99d4c4388d5febf52dca6cd"><enum>(i)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by striking <quote>to the extent provided for in advance by appropriation</quote> and inserting <quote>as described in paragraph (2)</quote>; The Office of Alumni Engagement shall be headed by an Officer of Alumni Engagement, who shall be designated by the Chief Executive Officer pursuant to section 195(b).</text></subsection><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idb573e508ef58403ebc25d25962defab4"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Duties</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline"> The Officer of Alumni Engagement shall—</text><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idcd1c8e202ef74ac88b3d26c507679739"><enum>(1)</enum><text>oversee and facilitate the interaction by alumni with current and future participants and the broader service community to promote a broader culture of service and strengthen participant recruitment and support;</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id470a117567364ac983e4ffe88c577a94"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">reinforce pathways between national service, education, and workforce opportunities;</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id8948ce3486a54cc2bfdea79b0cd9a6e6"><enum>(3)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">reinforce the relationship between national, public, and military service, in accordance with the final report and recommendations transmitted by the National Commission on Military, National, and Public Service under section 555 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2017 (<external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/114/328">Public Law 114–328</external-xref>); and</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id80fd1ce03e574da48555478e4fe6b0cd"><enum>(4)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">provide data on the long-term impacts of service on the life trajectory of alumni and to continue engaging alumni beyond their term of service.</text></paragraph></subsection><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id337c11d91cea472eb5bfbcfa6bdf486a"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Definition of alumni</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">For purposes of the this section, the term <term>alumni</term> means individuals who have successfully completed a term of service in a national service program.</text></subsection></section></part><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></section><section id="idb154fd2700c246609c17fd417a3fff7d" commented="no"><enum>112.</enum><header>Clarification regarding 5-year terms for all board of directors appointees</header><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idb7ed15063bb54a34a95523a39a7eb931"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 192 of the National and Community Service Act of 1990 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/12651a">42 U.S.C. 12651a</external-xref>) is amended—</text><paragraph id="idbccb9fb7d9114833aabc65fb0d8cef1c" commented="no"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in subsection (c), by inserting <quote>from the date on which the member takes office</quote> before the period; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph commented="no" id="id739b994284204feda9e5a1c0ca64b3b1"><enum>(D)</enum><text>is aligned to a program of study as defined in section 3 of the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act of 2006 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/20/2301">20 U.S.C. 2301</external-xref>).</text></subparagraph></paragraph></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="id88927d1fc41f4d24a7857c4f4f3e7f4a"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Conforming amendments</header><text>The National and Community Service Act of 1990 is amended—</text><subparagraph id="id866e1f1502d745ea8cd02ab67c3cd37d"><enum>(A)</enum><text>in section 146(d)(3) (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/12602">42 U.S.C. 12602(d)(3)</external-xref>), by striking <quote>148(f)(8)</quote> and inserting <quote>148(g)(8)</quote>; and</text></clause></subparagraph><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id2d7e040575614625a298a55ee0c762be"><enum>(G)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by adding at the end the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idB7FD8D0BBF204853AA039D8373E13017"><section id="id128bada342db49e38c276d795119bb74"><enum>149A.</enum><header>Stipend</header><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idf4869a6e2ba14df091878474218f7f6b"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id6f5af24f554a463aa81ceac4d94caa6c"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Full-time</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">An individual described in section 146(a) who, except as provided in paragraph (2), successfully completes a required full-time term of national service may elect to receive a stipend of an amount described in subsection (b) in lieu of a national service educational award. The Corporation may not provide a stipend under this subsection to an individual who receives a national service educational award under this subtitle for the completion of such term of national service.</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id1a214654b2644d41bb8b714270de4911"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Partial completion of service</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">If an individual serving in an approved national service position is released in accordance with section 139(c)(1)(A) from completing the full-time term of service agreed to by the individual, the Corporation may provide the individual with a stipend under paragraph (1) in the amount described under subsection (b) that is applicable for the individual and that corresponds to the quantity of the term of service actually completed by the individual.</text></paragraph></subsection><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id3f98f4cef48b479c87a1223a25a22ae8"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Amount</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">A stipend under subsection (a)(1) shall be for an amount that is equivalent to the rate set for stipends provided to volunteers under section 105(a) of the Domestic Volunteer Service Act of 1973 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/4955">42 U.S.C. 4955(a)</external-xref>).</text></subsection><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id4f5bac66036548bfab231099cadfd768"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Terms</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">A stipend under subsection (a)(1) shall be provided in the same manner and in accordance with any regulations prescribed with respect to stipends provided to volunteers under section 105(a) of the Domestic Volunteer Service Act of 1973 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/4955">42 U.S.C. 4955(a)</external-xref>).</text></subsection></section><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subparagraph></paragraph></section><section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idadbb93efe5484d21b334b43364ad7495"><enum>205.</enum><header>Non-competitive hiring eligibility</header><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id89b961d0db4644c5bd74170739d5aaf1"><enum>(a)</enum><header>National and Community Service Act of 1990</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Title I of the National and Community Service Act of 1990 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/12511">42 U.S.C. 12511 et seq.</external-xref>) is amended by inserting after section 189D (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/12645g">42 U.S.C. 12645g</external-xref>) the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id862E7AB8836249C095628845DEC43685"><section id="idcb5ab5141bca469aa8085a687fa31dfe"><enum>189E.</enum><header>Non-competitive hiring eligibility</header><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="iddc269e11f52542349bcc1801e06ecb7d"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Definitions</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In this section:</text><paragraph id="idaa21a7cfb7a548f999254b99b2c6d068"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Agency</header><text>The term <term>agency</term> means an agency, office, or other establishment in the executive branch of the Federal Government.</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id0214b96911074be8ab1681f57e54a4b3"><enum>(2)</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">Competitive service</header><text>The term <term>competitive service</term> has the meaning given the term in section 2102 of title 5, United States Code.</text></paragraph></subsection><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id1fcebe0d49f649b286535d6d0c27cfe5"><enum>(b)</enum><header>In general</header><text>Notwithstanding any provision of <external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/5/33">chapter 33</external-xref> of title 5, United States Code, governing appointments in the competitive service, and under such regulations as the Director of the Office of Personnel Management shall prescribe, the head of any agency may, in accordance with subsections (c) and (e), noncompetitively appoint any individual who is certified under subsection (d) to a position in the competitive service for which the individual is otherwise qualified.</text></subsection><subsection id="id87b86416d5e04700987a30584001c432"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Appointment in permanent position</header><text>Any person appointed to a permanent position under subsection (a) shall—</text><paragraph id="id89c1c8e4834a4d01b25980bc25eb0897"><enum>(1)</enum><text>become a career-conditional employee, unless the employee has otherwise completed the service requirements for career tenure; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id9b5d383ba0724db588585488b33f92dc"><enum>(2)</enum><text>acquire competitive status upon completion of any prescribed probationary period.</text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="id6c453acdbce94fd596ab66ada49bd51c"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Certification of individual</header><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="ide418fe8005224feda20405194090d4c2"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Chief Executive Officer may certify an individual under this subsection if the individual successfully completed—</text><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="ida7f99297b9464140a8ed738c8d8218f1"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">a term of national service as a Team Leader or Member, as described in paragraph (1) or (4) of section 155(b), in the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps program component described in section 153;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id4a734dd6dab64a0fa4a6d717d6872525"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">a period of service of not less than one year as a volunteer or designated volunteer leader under part A of title I of the Domestic Volunteer Service Act of 1973 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/4950">42 U.S.C. 4950 et seq.</external-xref>); or</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id4ec5a039f36d48d1ae6ef976194b41a8"><enum>(C)</enum><text> not less than 1,700 hours of service under section 139(b)(1) as a participant under section 137.</text></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idb52baa140522405c9402352170078d86"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Reliance on other certifications</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In making any certification under paragraph (1), the Chief Executive Officer may rely on a certification made by the entity that selected the individual for, and supervised the individual in, the activity described in subparagraph (A), (B), or (C) of such paragraph.</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id64d7dd9aa8124ab3800b8e2df8d5cba6"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Erroneous or incorrect certification</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">If the Chief Executive Officer determines that a certification under paragraph (1) is erroneous or incorrect, the Corporation shall, after considering the full facts and circumstances surrounding the erroneous or incorrect certification, take action as permitted under law.</text></paragraph></subsection><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id0f1fa177f5484aad9f16b9c0ce2dde09"><enum>(e)</enum><header>Period of appointment</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The head of any agency may make an appointment of an individual under subsection (b)—</text><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id61dccdc011d442a1a54cffec96d62f46"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">not later than 1 year after the date of completion by the individual of an activity described in subparagraph (A), (B), or (C) of subsection (d)(1); or</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id79f349508d604f55baa1d37b1872caad"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">not later than 3 years after such date in the case of an individual who, following such service, was engaged—</text><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="iddf4f0844d52d4641bc69b0c974f202c1"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">in military service, </text></subparagraph><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idb8d1882f038649998317d19faa729bd6"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">in the pursuit of studies at a recognized institution of higher learning, or </text></subparagraph><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idc639e8a8b7484bea9ab189353242424b"><enum>(C)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">in other activities that, as determined by the head of such agency, warrant an extended time period.</text></subparagraph></paragraph></subsection></section><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subsection><subsection id="idcc20128a7bba4676a39340e935c3de37"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Domestic Volunteer Service Act of 1973</header><text> Section 415 of the Domestic Volunteer Service Act of 1973 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/5055">42 U.S.C. 5055</external-xref>) is amended by striking subsection (d).</text></subsection></section></title><title id="id39260080af3c484a8bb851241f750825" style="OLC"><enum>III</enum><header>Miscellaneous provisions</header><section id="id9e18500aed7c447a9b29abaf2d051664"><enum>301.</enum><header>Clerical amendments</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">The table of contents in section 1(b) of the National and Community Service Act of 1990 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/12501">42 U.S.C. 12501</external-xref> note) is amended—</text><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id24e18029393b455fab0e79cedca20c77"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by striking the item relating to section 141 and inserting the following: </text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id89096B8AB91A42B7A1292CE95AB95A70"><toc><toc-entry level="section" bold="off">Sec. 141.
