Trump, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body><section id="S1" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Trump Assassination Attempt Transparency Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="idb704b85e5ece4e5f868ef4754693c98c"><enum>2.</enum><header>Sense of Congress</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">It is the sense of Congress that—</text><paragraph id="id2b8ffec68f82419daa1ae1455b944a2f"><enum>(1)</enum><text>the Department of Homeland Security and the United States Secret Service should be fully transparent with Congress and the people of the United States about the failed assassination attempt on Donald J. Trump on July 13, 2024, in Butler, Pennsylvania;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idcd832f3db0224f8cb7a7a1efac64b0cf"><enum>(2)</enum><text>the former President and presumptive Republican party nominee was shot in the head;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="ide3c549484e464b80a760e045069163d1"><enum>(3)</enum><text>Congress has historically conducted investigations into presidential assassinations and assassination attempts;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idaf6ed3486bf843858446772ca8acaec6"><enum>(4)</enum><text>Congress has a role in investigating this historic security failure; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id59c1df4d085f4ef8af013598b0e39fba"><enum>(5)</enum><text>investigation into the failure to protect Donald J. Trump would benefit from declassifying all related information.</text></paragraph></section><section id="iddac7cad7a6114f10aafe90c558abf39f"><enum>3.</enum><header>Declassification of information relating to the failed assassination attempt on Donald J. Trump</header><subsection id="id43f6e85bd45d45cf85967e793fb35496"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Definitions</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In this section: </text><paragraph id="idc9e28c0263674e9e8fdcf908e1fb019f"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Appropriate congressional committees</header><text>The term <term>appropriate congressional committees</term> means—</text><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id3e0162941e47461a9a8038876f8fe2ef"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs of the Senate; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id14cf166c76704764acf03ced832ece8b"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the Committee on Oversight and Accountability and the Committee on Homeland Security of the House of Representatives.</text></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="ideb7110b8e6d046f1b3846ca57711a463"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Director</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The term <term>Director</term> means the Director of National Intelligence.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idf94f7d374e3848b7a977661e59390007" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Inspector General</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The term <term>Inspector General</term> means the Inspector General of the Intelligence Community.</text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="idef2b6946e67844bcb8187c3d09d80041"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Declassification required</header><text>The Director shall, in consultation with the Secretary of Homeland Security, the Attorney General, and such other officials as the Director considers appropriate, declassify any and all information relating to the failed assassination attempt on the life of Donald J. Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, 2024, including any and all information relating to—</text><paragraph id="id1e729cf15aca490b8cfbbd14e0f09c9b"><enum>(1)</enum><text>the identity, motive, method, and actions of the shooter;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id8f0f27c301a049d5987f819dc0c50390"><enum>(2)</enum><text>requests for additional resources or protective measures for Donald J. Trump, his campaign, his organization, or any entity involved in preparing for the event;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idad0dd97c912e42b29415431270649d88"><enum>(3)</enum><text>preparations for the event in Butler, Pennsylvania, by the United States Secret Service and other law enforcement entities; </text></paragraph><paragraph id="id6fff8a51ab684541a0fae8b488c1e449"><enum>(4)</enum><text>response by United States Secret Service to the shooter; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idadace6dc18214ebb95b1a6f5b04ba5f9"><enum>(5)</enum><text>information on the ensuing investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and any other investigating agency. </text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="id0f936437abae48d19ebecf207a604165"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Report by Director of National Intelligence</header><text>The Director shall submit to Congress an unclassified report that contains—</text><paragraph id="id316bb88edb0e4bb38dc49479c82b86df"><enum>(1)</enum><text>all the information described under subsection (b); and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idbb7340f9fd6c4b0a90ed9d35e31c5569"><enum>(2)</enum><text>only such redactions as the Director determines are strictly necessary to protect sources and methods.</text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="id7b4044b2830c49ac83e7bab79cf18b5f"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Report by Inspector General of the Intelligence Community</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Not later than 30 days after the date that the Director submits to Congress the report required by subsection (c), the Inspector General shall submit to the appropriate congressional committees a report assessing whether the Director complied with the requirements of this section.</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
