which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSAS00">Committee on Armed Services</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To require the Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs to provide a briefing on the status of establishing a course of education on authentication of digital content provenance and a briefing on a pilot program on authentication of digital content provenance, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body><section id="idFAEDD3EC0A3C4E58BD581F2D1ADB2FF2" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Briefing on course of education and pilot program on authentication of digital content provenance for certain Department of Defense media content</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 1524 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2024 (<external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/118/31">Public Law 118–31</external-xref>) is amended—</text><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idcc4dcee8c07b484ba672c8e801cfe9f5"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in subsection (a)—</text><subparagraph id="id582b7674819d4a94880b727384e0db1e" commented="no"><enum>(A)</enum><text>by redesignating paragraph (3) as paragraph (4); and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="idcd82c1247e144dd8a1bef47d4f8e5a41" commented="no"><enum>(B)</enum><text>by inserting after paragraph (2) the following new paragraph (3):</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idCE5AF4D4FE8043A9AD65397E8AD53D5C"><paragraph id="idc2f95db84bbe4eb3892432b42ebcc783"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Interim briefing</header><subparagraph id="id5ab0994764ef44469800846e8ad1808a"><enum>(A)</enum><header>In general</header><text>Not later than 60 days after the date of the enactment of the National Defense Authorization Act of Fiscal Year 2025, the Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs shall provide to the Committee on Armed Services of the Senate and the Committee on Armed Services of the House of Representatives a briefing on the status of establishing the course of education under paragraph (1).</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="idda6d6c0fc493420b9b6d19d9749baa7d"><enum>(B)</enum><header>Elements</header><text>The briefing under subparagraph (A) shall cover the following:</text><clause id="id6b8c77faef094996b0f3410c9a329b35"><enum>(i)</enum><text>The status of the Department with regards to developing the curriculum for the course of education.</text></clause><clause commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id967a44d0a3de4c16a69c95262c7fe56e"><enum>(ii)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Any initial resource constraints or other challenges that may be affecting the development of the course of education.</text></clause><clause id="id9833b1ff24f5441584db5b32b3731017"><enum>(iii)</enum><text>Such other matters as the Secretary considers appropriate.</text></clause></subparagraph></paragraph><after-quoted-block>; and</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="id443c76a48a8f4d9f968bf0bc22c99c38" commented="no"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in subsection (b)—</text><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idc02d2ab0d98d4187b40bd0752d49fcab"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by redesignating paragraph (5) as paragraph (6); and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="idaf4babdf70044fb2a09fce4e4142a6ce" commented="no"><enum>(B)</enum><text>by inserting after paragraph (4) the following new paragraph (5):</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id3C7F09C06DD44D10BCFFA3482774D575"><paragraph id="idc130e1bb4f634942a32f882ff07ad035"><enum>(5)</enum><header>Interim briefing</header><subparagraph id="ide2c5e07fd93d45a0ac5962f2daa4979f"><enum>(A)</enum><header>In general</header><text>Not later than 60 days after the date of the enactment of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2025, the Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs shall provide to the Committee on Armed Services of the Senate and the Committee on Armed Services of the House of Representatives a briefing on the status of the pilot program required by paragraph (1).</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id3396f32f39c9486d9072488df496ba12"><enum>(B)</enum><header>Elements</header><text>The briefing under subparagraph (A) shall cover the following:</text><clause id="id90ef1bb9042c436a8bedba20271fbc82"><enum>(i)</enum><text>The actions taken by the Director of the Defense Media Activity to identify an industry open technical standard to pilot to verify the media content of the Department.</text></clause><clause id="id4b497b1dbf1f445580f95e5c7a52ea57"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>Any resource constraints or other challenges, either budgetary, personnel, or policy, that would hamper successful implementation of the pilot program.</text></clause><clause id="id076e5b3fe3234592979ee96c32f884a9"><enum>(iii)</enum><text>Any business processes or strategic planning the Department has established to fulfill implementation of the pilot program.</text></clause><clause id="id7c12963e447845cb9fddcdd4c0a8c08c"><enum>(iv)</enum><text>Any other matters as the Director considers appropriate.</text></clause></subparagraph></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subparagraph></paragraph></section></legis-body></bill>
