<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>118th CONGRESS</congress><session>2d Session</session><legis-num>S. 4335</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20240514">May 14, 2024</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S380">Mr. Peters</sponsor> introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSCM00">Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To ensure funds are available under the aviation workforce development grant program for technical assistance and to require consideration for certain applicants.</official-title></form><legis-body><section id="idf4ba2b3cd4424d40880683b4836206a7" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Aviation workforce development grants</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 625(b) of the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/49/40101">49 U.S.C. 40101</external-xref> note) is amended by adding at the end the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id96C0CE04C61D4FC0AFEC408C7A9360B9"><paragraph id="id329cab0f000942d09d5bc375b1c27b8c"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Set aside for technical assistance</header><text>The Secretary may set aside up to 2 percent of the funds appropriated to carry out this subsection for each of fiscal years 2025 through 2028 to provide technical assistance to eligible applicants for a grant under this subsection.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id006b8a45a3db480f837d1225621d5f0b"><enum>(4)</enum><header>Consideration for certain applicants</header><text>In reviewing and selecting applications for grants under the programs established under subsection (a), the Secretary may give consideration to applicants that provide an assurance—</text><subparagraph id="id53bc1a32b6b84c999ef0a400f4ddf078"><enum>(A)</enum><text>to use grant funds to encourage the participation of populations that are underrepresented in the aviation industry, including in economically disadvantaged geographic areas and rural communities;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id4ff5024f884c46e5a6899225306b1190"><enum>(B)</enum><text>to address the workforce needs of rural and regional airports; or</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id76d0a58b6f744c78a7f80b425f98bab7"><enum>(C)</enum><text>to strengthen aviation programs at a minority-serving institution (as described in section 371(a) of the Higher Education Act of 1965 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/20/1067q">20 U.S.C. 1067q(a)</external-xref>), a public institution of higher education, or a public postsecondary vocational institution.</text></subparagraph></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></section></legis-body></bill>
