<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>118th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 3508</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20231213">December 13, 2023</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S380">Mr. Peters</sponsor> introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSAS00">Committee on Armed Services</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To provide for parity among the Vice Chiefs, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body><section id="S1" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Vice Chiefs Parity Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="id20ec0f6f55584b2ea0eea99da594e78c"><enum>2.</enum><header>Grade of Vice Chief of the National Guard Bureau</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 10505 of title 10, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following new subsection:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id12505d7c24e34860bbc2b8ed7215fd31"><subsection id="id423e8ddcd2ca47ee9a9099d0140544dc"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Grade</header><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="yes-display-inline" id="ide898112eec1245c0b3ec69a00032373c"><enum>(1)</enum><text>The Vice Chief of the National Guard Bureau shall be appointed to serve in the grade of general.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id6522975dab8c48969c86e9263e3fbd2d" indent="up1"><enum>(2)</enum><text>The Secretary of Defense shall designate, pursuant to subsection (b) of section 526 of this title, the position of Vice Chief of the National Guard Bureau as one of the general officer and flag officer positions to be excluded from the limitations in subsection (a) of such section.</text></paragraph></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></section></legis-body></bill>
