<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>118th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 3136</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20231026">October 26, 2023</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S388">Ms. Hassan</sponsor> (for herself and <cosponsor name-id="S396">Mrs. Blackburn</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSFI00">Committee on Finance</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To amend title XIX of the Social Security Act to extend the requirement for State Medicaid plans to provide coverage for medication-assisted treatment.</official-title></form><legis-body><section id="S1" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Extending Access to Addiction Treatment Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H9534939CC222409CA5005CC416505B2D" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>2.</enum><header>Extending requirement for State Medicaid plans to provide coverage for medication-assisted treatment</header><subsection id="HCF89BD295353425888DFAECE7B44C3DD"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 1905 of the Social Security Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/1396d">42 U.S.C. 1396d</external-xref>) is amended—</text><paragraph id="H15C45B41CA5E4E38A4C07210DFA3F4E6"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in subsection (a)(29), by striking <quote>for the period beginning October 1, 2020, and ending September 30, 2025,</quote> and inserting <quote>beginning on October 1, 2020,</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H98D955A115494FFE9125A703043A67A4"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in subsection (ee)(2), by striking <quote>for the period specified in such paragraph, if before the beginning of such period the State certifies to the satisfaction of the Secretary</quote> and inserting <quote>if such State certifies, not less than every 5 years and to the satisfaction of the Secretary,</quote>.</text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H25C2679462AD49E18BD701AC83962E49"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Conforming amendment</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 1006(b)(4)(A) of the Substance Use-Disorder Prevention that Promotes Opioid Recovery and Treatment for Patients and Communities Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/1396a">42 U.S.C. 1396a</external-xref> note) is amended by striking <quote>, and before October 1, 2025</quote>. </text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
