<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>118th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 261</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20230202">February 2, 2023</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S307">Mr. Brown</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S153">Mr. Grassley</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To amend the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 to authorize the use of grant amounts for providing training and resources for first responders on the use of containment devices to prevent secondary exposure to fentanyl and other potentially lethal substances, and purchasing such containment devices for use by first responders.</official-title></form><legis-body style="OLC" display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause" id="H0299D768852045CEA539BF002B0EFBE2"><section section-type="section-one" id="HAF7ABB61150E4F449DB76F942E318D12"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Protecting First Responders from Secondary Exposure Act of 2023</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H9D488AC539E7429F8D5DA8E3CA176C19"><enum>2.</enum><header>Preventing first responder secondary exposure to fentanyl</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 3021(a) of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/34/10701">34 U.S.C. 10701(a)</external-xref>) is amended—</text><paragraph id="idB928CA886E6944B098E06221316A9B31"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by redesignating paragraphs (4) through (10) as paragraphs (5) through (11), respectively; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id7B734C1368E441FEA851C32C82F4688D"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by inserting after paragraph (3) the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HF34A609C0FFB466082F610CD0EF3AC23"><paragraph id="H84B4C67888B5460CB17C6711D480D590"><enum>(4)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Providing training and resources for first responders on the use of containment devices to prevent secondary exposure to fentanyl and other potentially lethal substances, and purchasing such containment devices for use by first responders.</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></section></legis-body></bill>
